Jamestown was a multi-lingual town. The Spanish mission at Hopewell relocated to Jamestown, and the earlier Huguenot and Scandinavian adventurers and settlers were known to wander through the place. Plus, Latin, Greek and Turkish were in use.
To start figuring out what's inscribed on the slate it will be necessary for the analysts to put out of their minds the idea that Jamestown was some sort of English language isolate in the wilderness of America.
