it is racist. Conservatism believes in a colorblind society not going around calling people mullato as if it where an epithet like coke snorter etc.
Basically, you referred to another poster as racist....uh tres harsh don’t you think? It is truly one of the most incendiary accusations that can be made at someone—I was well, shocked.
My Response/Questions to you were:
Why is it racist to point out someones race?
Are the media not all over the fact that Sotomayer is Hispanic?
Why is it racist to refer to someone as mulatto?
Tho I agree that his race/color dont matter in many issues, but I dont think it is racist to refer to someone by race.
I am not sure if you are opposed to pointing out someone’s race or referring to someone as Mullato, or both?
In your opinion “it is racist” , however, see legal dictionary def. http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Mullato. This term is in a legal dictionary, so it is not considered derogatory by all. So is it derogatory? Is it if you refer to someone as Eurasian, is that derogatory? How about Black? Creole?
2. You state that conservatism is colorblind, therefore to refer to someone’s race is racist. That really is not supporting why it is racist to call someone Mullato—it is just your opinion.
You then go on to state that “Conservatism believes in a colorblind society not going around calling people mullato as if it where an epithet like coke snorter** etc.” I think that was reading a lot into the term Mullato. I have never seen any of this as a conservative platform....I am not saying I disagree, but you are stating as fact what is really your opinion—unless you can find a conservative platform with that tenet.
I grew up in the 70s when we were taught to be colorblind—but the libs, the election of the past year, and the appointment of Sotomayer have been anything but colorblind. I mean come on, no one could ask tough questions or criticize the candidate for fear of being referred to as a racist. No one could point out that the occupant attended a racist’s church...Seems we have the same thing going on with Sotomayer. No, we should be colorblind on matter of most issues which I think I said in my first post, but I am really tired of the political thot-police dredging up the term to short-circuit debate. I think conservatives need to be very careful not to fall into that.
You branded as racist the person who referred to Obama as a Mullato & really did not answer my questions— The libs and rinos are branding those who would question the nomination of Sotomayer as racist. So it is ok to label Sotomayer as the first Hispanic to SCOTUS, but Rush is a racist to question her qualifications or her possibly racist legal opinions? Hmm double standard. So it is ok for media to refer to Sotomayer as Hispanic but not the occupant as Mullato? Sorry, I don’t get it...
3. But frankly this seems like a form of post-election conservative political correctness which I am getting really tired of.
We have freedom of speech and freedom of thot (at least for the time being) and I don’t think it is appropriate to label anyone as racist on this forum for a comment like that.
**BTW, didn’t he say he was a coke snorter in his OWN BOOK?!!
We agree to disagree.
