BTW, with reference to Sotomayor, “Hispanic” is not a race, but rather a (poorly defined) ethnic group. Sotomayor looks Caucasian to a large extent. From what I understand, Americans from other Latino backgrounds (Mexican, Cuban, Dominican, etc.) probably won't identify with Sotomayor much if at all.

Well as I noted, the media is using the term “hispanic” when referring to Sotomayor.

BTW, seems on all the applications where there are racial questions (& we have filled out many for kids college apps), they use the term “hispanic”. What term would you use to describe?
