Amen. I hate that crap. I was part of a research project that included watching a hip hop video. As a researcher myself, I try to help other people doing projects, but good googa mooga, I could not watch that stuff, and it was one of the more benign, positive message videos.

I’m listening to Bush ‘Machinehead’ as I type. I’m a fan of radiohead, the Smashing Pumpkins, as well as just about anything that’s Classic Rock (I went to college in the ‘70s). I don’t care if I’m 55, I like rock and will be playing Zeppelin and Ozzy in the retirement home.

Still, it often shocks me to run into ‘older people’ online who also like rock - until I realize they are my age. : )

Have you caught the new group that James Iha formed with Bun E Carlos, Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne, and one of the Hanson kids. Power pop that’s not too bad.

I was born in the early 60’s and I like many different types of music – from many different types of classical and jazz, blue grass, blues, big band, Motown, classic rock, alternative rock, some pop and even a few artists who incorporate some hip hop; my music collection is quite eclectic to say the least.

I find it amusing that I know some people my age whose musical taste runs in a narrow band consisting only of anything recorded and popular from 1975 through 1985.

While I like “classic rock”, I like a lot of newer bands too. I like Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins. I also like Death Cab for Cutie and the Raconteurs (especially the Raconteurs – their last release really kicked!). And I like the Dave Matthews Band – saw them in concert twice. I also like Counting Crows, Evanesance, Tool, Staind…

BTW - I have a great niece who is 15 who loves the Beatles and Rush and my 14 year old great nephew knows all the lyrics to all the classic Beachboys songs.

I like that I can talk music with these kids – both classic rock and the newer bands.
