This is not the exact same flu. This is a strain of it. I wont say head for the hills but there is a reason why the CDC and virologists are watching it very closely, when a virus mutates a lot of bad things can happen. ..... aft_lizard
Do 30,000 Americans die of the flu every year.
Yep.
Who are they?
Mostly the old and the immune-compromised.
What's so different about this strain?
When 86 year old Mrs. Bernstein dies of a particular flu strain, that's just The Natural Order of Things.
When two healthy 27 year old medical interns die in the same hospital of a particular flu strain, you have a very nasty, newly-mutated bug.
Regardless of Obama's opinion of himself, not everything is about him.
This is a big story in South America where Mexican passengers are being denied entry into the country if they arrive with a fever.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and sometimes a new and nasty strain of killer flu is a new and nasty strain of killer flu.
WTF does this have to do with Obama?
Besides that you are sounding completely uneducated here. I have studied virology and microbiology. Because two old people die from the flu doesn’t mean that its the same for every flu. As it is obvious that you do not know but not every Flu is the same and not every Type will have the same strain. Because this is type A it doesn’t mean it’s the same seasonal type A that hits us every year. What concerns everybody is the fact that the young and healthy died, like what happened during the 1918 Spanish Flu and the 1976 outbreak.
The elderly die from the regular flu because of secondary infections. THe young die from Flu’s like the Spanish flu due to a systematic over-reaction by the immune system causing the symptoms to be deadly. The elderly don’t die because their immune systems aren’t strong enough to over-react.
Thanks for the reasoned approach.
