The American First Lady presented French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy with a practical – and very rock 'n' roll – gift: an acoustic Gibson guitar.
Offered "as a sign of friendship', Michelle Obama gave Gibson's Legend model, to Bruni, a former model-turned-singer who is currently in the process of recording her fourth album.
The gift, which Michelle Obama brought to France, was presented to Bruni following their visit Saturday to Strasbourg's 12th century cathedral and the city's Renaissance Museum, a source says.

I think yeah, gifting between heads of states and spouses is probably common, but tend to be politically meaningful without being personal. But I don’t know.....these are two unconventional first ladies, who the hell knows what kind of friendship they want to present to the world. Bruni probably gave Michelle a subscription to Vogue and a package of Spankx.
I have no prob with this gift. Gibson is a high quality American made guitar. My wife bought me my j-45 for my 40th birthday and I cherish it. This beats an IPOD by any measure.
Does Bruni know how to play, or is she just a rock wannabe?
There are Fender Stratocasters made in Mexico that are sold by Costco, and there are higher end models made in CA.
Indeed, I don’t get it though. The Queen is given an iPod, the Brit PM useless DVDs and Carla gets a beautiful acoustic Gibson guitar.
The guitar beats a dozen of the other two put together. Bizarre.
I don’t focus any on Michelle. She’s not central. But her husband’s agenda is hurting our nation here and abroad. I do see he’s been coached on some international stuff. But he can’t help himself from his Third World tendencies.
And that’s a real freak show the way he vacillates back and forth.
