I don’t know why they hell the new Denver coach would have preferred Matt Cassell to Cutler.
They most certainly did otherwise they would have had to sign him to a contract. However, he would have gone into the FA market to get a fair value. At that point why sign with the Pats so they could trade him to a team that he might not want to play for?
He could have negotiated a no trade clause, or he might have signed and not been worried about it. Really there’s no reason he couldn’t have signed for a couple million and stayed as Brady’s backup. Or they could have just let him go. He was a 7th round draft pick, who’s not actually very good. They got 11 wins out of him, that’s not too shabby. A lot of 7th round draft picks just quietly go away without ever being on the field during a real game.
That’s the way I’m looking at it too. My greatest fear is they somehow win a playoff game and Major Dad gets another five years. I see blackouts if the Vikes don’t get off to a good start. With the possibility of the Williams’ Wall still having to serve their four game suspension, it could be ugly.
