Cutler going to Bears
By John Clayton
ESPN.com
The Chicago Bears pulled the big upset Thursday afternoon by acquiring Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, a source told ESPN.com.
The Broncos confirmed the move.
To acquire Cutler, the Bears had to give up quarterback Kyle Orton and first-round picks in 2009 and 2010, a source said.
To complete the trade, the Broncos had to give back an undisclosed draft choice in a later round.
The Bears beat out the Redskins, Buccaneers, Lions, Titans and other teams to get land the 25-year-old Pro Bowl quarterback.
The Broncos had been asking for at least two first-round choices.
Cutler asked to be traded when he found out first-year coach Josh McDaniels tried to acquire Matt Cassel in a trade with the Patriots.
Cutler had not returned phone calls from the Broncos, according to the team, and had been staying away from the offseason program.

Sorry. Enjoy your first round draft picks.
I don’t know why they hell the new Denver coach would have preferred Matt Cassell to Cutler.
They most certainly did otherwise they would have had to sign him to a contract. However, he would have gone into the FA market to get a fair value. At that point why sign with the Pats so they could trade him to a team that he might not want to play for?
He could have negotiated a no trade clause, or he might have signed and not been worried about it. Really there’s no reason he couldn’t have signed for a couple million and stayed as Brady’s backup. Or they could have just let him go. He was a 7th round draft pick, who’s not actually very good. They got 11 wins out of him, that’s not too shabby. A lot of 7th round draft picks just quietly go away without ever being on the field during a real game.
That’s the way I’m looking at it too. My greatest fear is they somehow win a playoff game and Major Dad gets another five years. I see blackouts if the Vikes don’t get off to a good start. With the possibility of the Williams’ Wall still having to serve their four game suspension, it could be ugly.
