Yes, it is, Amy. It is called the Common Hawk Cuckoo. Here is a little information on the bird, along with the link where the picture and information originated:

The bird is sitting on a tree called Casia fistula, its yellow flower is the State Flower Kerala. This flower is essential for a ritual called “Vishu Kani” which is associated with the second major festival of ours called Vishu (New year). The flowers are called “Kanikonna” in malayalam.

Common hawk-Cuckoo, Cuculus varius vahl, is also known as Brainfever Bird because of its loud persistent screaming of “brain-fever, brain fever”. The bird is the size of a pigeon with longer tail. It is ashy grey above, whitish below, cross barred with brown and a broadly barred tail. It looks, moves, and flies very much like the Shikra Hawk. It is seen singly in wooded country, partial to gardens, groves and mango topes etc near human habitations.

This bird keeps silent mostly during winter and therefore is liable to be overlooked. It becomes increasingly noisy with the advance of hot weather. Its call is loud ‘brain fever’ repeated several times, heard all through the day and frequentlyduring moonlit nights.

It eats hairy caterpillars and other insects, berries and wild figs.

It’s nesting season is March to June coinciding with that of Turdoides babblers on whose nests it is parasitic.

I took this shot using D200 with Nikkor 80-400, handheld.

Regarding Scottish eggs, the original Scottish recipe calls for deep frying them, after the sausage/egg balls are dunked in a beaten egg with a little water, then rolled in bread crumbs. I just could not do that - as much as I like some fried food - that just seems like tooooo much - and they turn out fine with no coating, and just baked over a rack on a cookie sheet with sides. (I always put tin foil on the cookie sheet below - to save washing time.)

Very pretty. I recognize that green floral background, used the same one in a Spring post at The Finest.

I’m going to pick up some sausage so I can try these. They sound wonderful. I’m going to bake instead of fry. Sounds easier.

GOOD MILITARY MONDAY TO AMY’S PLACE!

The Soldier’s Code

1) I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.

2) I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender my men while they still have the means to resist.

3) If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.

4) If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me, and will back them up in every way.

5) When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am bound to give only name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies, or harmful to their cause.

6) I will never forget that I am an American fighting man, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower, August, 1955.
