Danny Gokey

Danny's choice. Joe Cocker's "You Are So Beautiful".

A really slooooooooow arrangement. Barely audible.

He's accompanied by string instruments.

The song picks up in the second half, but ...

Randy: Amazing song. You showed you can really, really, REALLY sing. Mad vocals, dude, mad vocals.

Kara: That was stunning. Stun-ning! Nothing else to say. Amazing.

Paula: Infuse your own thing into it. You nailed it. Beautiful song choice.

Simon: Loved the song, but I wouldn't have done the same arrangement because it doesn't need rearranging. I would call that a vocal masterclass.

Kris Allen

Immediately following Danny is Kris with his song choice, "Heartless" by Kanye West.

This is an unplugged version. He plays the acoustic guitar.

I wasn't optimistic about this, but it's very good.

Randy: This is gonna be one to the toughest voting nights. I like that better than the Kanye version. You're in it to win it. Love it, baby!

Kara: Why didn't you do that with "Apologize". (shut-up) The tone, the pitch the phrasing--100%.

Paula: This is what keeps you relevent. I commend you. Great job.

Simon: [he repeats his unfavorable feelings about Kris's first song, which sets Kara off again. Simon has to stop to tell her to let him finish--she can't stop talking] (to Kris) I had written you out of this comepetition. That, however, changed after that performance. (audience cheers)

Kara starts squawking about "Aplogize" again, as if anyone cares.

Seacrest: Guys, it's about the contestants tonight.

Simon: (off camera) Thank you!

Adam Lambert

Adam, for the fifth or sixth week in a row, has the pimp spot. His song choice is Aerosmith's "Cryin".

He sings it "straight", but he can't help but throw in a head-splitting scream here and there. This one is over-emotional too.

Randy: You're one of the best we've ever had on this stage. I loved this even more than "One" for you.

Kara: How can you hit those notes and still talk to us. Who hits those notes. See you at the finals.

Paula: You set the bar so far in the sky. We'll be seeing you next week and many years after that.

Simon: I'm not going to suck up as much as the other three. I don't want every one to assume you're going to be here next week. (sounds a bit worried)

Going by tonight's peformances, a Danny vs. Kris finale is very possible. Adam admits this during his post-song chat with Seacrest.

TIVO Warning: The show runs over by about 5 minutes tonight.
