Sarah Palins teenage daughter angrily denounced reports today that she was to blame for breaking up with the father of her two-month-old son.
Bristol Palin, the daughter of last years controversial Republican vice-presidential candidate, responded after it emerged that she and her fiancé, Levi Johnston, had split up.
The story first emerged in the tabloid Star magazine, which quoted Mr Johnstons sister Mercedes saying that Ms Palin and her mother were to blame for the break-up. The couple had been due to marry this summer.
Levi tries to see Tripp every single day, but Bristol makes it nearly impossible, Mercedes Johnston is quoted as saying.
She tells him he cant take the baby to our house because she doesnt want him around white trash. The worst part, Ms Johnston tells the magazine, is that Governor Palin supports her daughters treatment of Mr Johnston.
Ms Palin said in a statement issued through her mothers political action committee that she was devastated by the report in Star. Unfortunately, my family has seen many people say and do things to cash in on the Palin name. Sometimes that greed clouds good judgment and the truth.

This isn’t the first time a young woman fell for a bad boy with a pretty face and won’t be the last.
As for the “redneck” comment by Levi’s sister, Levi referred to himself as a straight up roughneck and his mother was arrested on drug charges. It sounds to me as if Bristol made the right decision, not only to break it off with the family, but to bring her child into this world and take responsibility for her actions by trying to give him a stable home.
This in no way changes my mind about Sarah Palin or her family. It happens all the time, in the best of families, usually ending in abortion. FReepers should remember that and stop casting stones when they don’t know the full story.
I agree. Its not as if Levi would be given a cabinet position in a Palin adminstration. Also, Democrat President's have had their embarassing relatives: Clinton had Roger, and Carter had Billy. On the GOP side, even the great Ronald Reagan had less than stellar offspring.
This reminds me of one of my favorite offspring quotes, coming from (of all places) the NYT. A Nobel Prize winner (I can't remember which, although I recollect it as being in biology) was asked in an interview why he had never contributed to a sperm bank, as his genes could be of great value to society. He replied, "I know many Nobel Prize winners.... and I know their children."
Attempting to tar Sarah with the problems her teenagers have is contemptible, and not of any value in assessing her competence.
Care to let us look in your closet and see what kind of goodies are in there
Not 'devastated' enough to stop talking to reporters, though.
Several of my friends have been very vocal throughout this entire mess, saying that Sarah Palin should have refused to discuss this and should have told her child to do the same. They are tired of seeing all of this publicized.
It seems I owe them an apology in supporting Sarah Palin in this regard and for having said that I was sure that she would let this drop after the interview on Fox with her daughter.
Repeat after me: No comment. Practice it until it seems natural. Then say it every time you have a decent reason to do so.
but I don’t think Patti used her father’s PAC to make press releases.
we need to see more kids like Jonathan Krohn...those classically homeschooled kids represent the future of the conservative movement.
Conservatives can't be pro-life and simultaneously wink and excuse behavior that "usually ends in abortion". And this is a pro-life website, just ask the owner.
But I wonder where all the FReeper ladies are who, last summer, were oo-ing and ahh-ing over what a "gorgeous hunk" Levi was and what a wonderful "love story" he and Bristol had. At the time, one told me that it was all okay, because "he [Levi] is going to do the right thing".
Well, no, actually he isn't, and it's not okay. It produced two wounded souls and a little boy who will never have a normal relationship with his Daddy. Not cool, not smart, and not a foundation for a society where conservatism actually works.
White Trash Ping!!!
Maybe Levi isn't ready to give up his manhood in exchange for 'that treasure of a girl'?
Isn’t that one of the Rules mentioned in Rules for Radicals, CPUSA, Mao’s red book, Marx etc.
Force the opposition to live up to their own standards....never mind the hypocrisy. It seems the media are so thoroughly brainwashed and demoralized that they’re obamatrons bringing the Marxist vision to Amerika.
It’s not Bristol Palin in the photos. It is Mercedes Johnson. There is a correction on the site but it’s obvious from just looking at the photos that it isn’t Bristol.
I just went thru the SarahPAC site and found no statement about or from Bristol.
So she should have stopped having sex with her husband? Or are you saying she should have aborted the baby? Either way, neither of those would constitute conservative family values.
Now she has a daughter who is a single un-wed mother.
Yes, and? Do you have kids? Do they always do what you want them to? No, of course they don't. Even if they have a stay-at-home mom, they are going to go against what you've taught them sometimes. You're only fooling yourself if you think that isn't the case. Would you have preferred that Sarah force Bristol to have an abortion so she wouldn't be embarrassed by her daughter's pregnancy? That's hardly a conservative family value.
At least from the photos that I seen of her...
Are you sure?
“The media should show some decency and leave these families alone.”
I think the media would be more likely to leave them alone if they stopped courting the media. In the case of the Palins, giving interviews to People Magazine and Greta van Susteren, etc., is not the way to get the media to leave you alone. In the case of the Johstons, getting yourself arrested for dealing meth is also not the way to go if you want to invoke your privacy.
Which one of those two girls is supposed to be Bristol?
Clue: Neither one is.
there is something called birth control...
