A Spruce Street man has been charged with shooting a city man in the face at Garfield Avenue and Spruce Street Monday afternoon.
Michael McGilberry Jr., 27, was arrested at the police station Wednesday night after turning himself in to authorities.
He is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.
The victim, 22-year-old Richard Jamison, has been released from Camden's Cooper University Hospital, according to Bridgeton Police Det. Lt. Michael Gaimari.
Jamison was shot in the right cheek following an altercation with McGilberry and at least one other person at around 2:20 p.m. Monday, police allege.
He reportedly spit the bullet out after it struck his tongue.
Investigators had partially identified McGilberry - they knew his first name and where he lived and hung out - as the shooting suspect by the time they had cleared the crime scene Monday evening, according to Gaimari.
They had fully identified him by the time they went home Monday night.
McGilberry was brought in for questioning on Tuesday, according to Gaimari, but was released without being charged in connection with the shooting.
After interviewing Jamison and a witness on Wednesday, an arrest warrant was issued for McGilberry, who was arrested at city hall at 8:30 p.m., charging him in the shooting.
Police have not recovered the gun used to shoot Jamison.
McGilberry was lodged in Cumberland County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
Det. Kristopher Steffler is the lead investigator on the case.

Must have been a 9mm...
Dang! The only thing more impressive would be if he had glared at the shooter before spitting it out the side of his mouth like a plug of tobacco!
This thread is useless without pix!

Powder..patch..ball FIRE!
Naw.. was pocket 22 with shorts... 9mm would have broke a tooth...
.22 or .25 or .32
I seriously doubt it was even a .22LR ... I suspect a .25ACP.
What a mensch!
Shades of ‘Near Dark.’
Or like the Terminator in “Rise of the Machines” when he spits the bullet out and says “Don’t do dat again.”
A friend of mine witnessed a similar incident in a popular Austin bar many years ago. After some misunderstanding, some white dweeb shot a big Mexican fellow in the face with a .25 Saturday Night Special. It was like shooting Mongo. The bullet split the guy’s upper lip and rested against his teeth — he picked the bullet from his teeth and threw back it at the frightened shooter! Then he lifted the shooter from the floor with one hand and punched him out with the other.
Ever see what a 9mm 124gr. +P JHP can do? That’s what I carry (when I’m not hauling the .45), and I find it tests out rather well - a much harder hit without sacrificing controllability. Plus, I get 16 rounds per mag instead of just 8.
C’mon people... it was a joke.
:^)
My dad is a retired police officer, and was involved in a shooting incident about 30 years ago. After a high speed car chase, the subject got out of his vehicle weilding a shotgun. Before he could get a shot off, my father’s partner shot at him from over the far side of the patrol car with his .357. One of the hollow points passed through the light bar and flattened into a disk about the size of a nickel. It subsequently hit the guy in the forehead, and slid under the scalp, and around the back of the guy’s skull. The guy went down instantly and was transported to the hospital where he later regained consciousness and coughed the bullet out while being examined.
No problem - I’m glad to know a lot of us are familiar with ammunition, which may come in more useful than we’d ever have wanted. Some folks like to disparage 9mm loads without realizing the variety available (Obama permitting). That said, I still prefer the 1911 .45ACP.
That’s why I carried a .357 as my personal weapon when I was stationed in Las Vegas. Nice, heavy slug, plus that 669 sounded like a cannon when it went off.
.357 Mag with a good 158gr hollowpoint will definitely get the bad guy’s attention. Permanently.
