djf is right. We’re not talking about another Great Depression. If the banks shut down, and they are in very serious trouble right now, and the dollar goes worthless it could be total anarchy.
Don’t get caught up in martial law fantasies. Take a million troops and spread them across the country. That’s 20K per state. Here in Iowa we have 99 counties. That’s 200 troops for each and my county is considered relatively rural and we still have a 40K population. The numbers say the govt is not going to be able to keep order for very long if it all flies apart.
I don’t know if even state and local govts can survive. There’s no way of knowing how things are going to go down, but if you want to survive you better think things through and have contingencies. You will likely have to make some very heart wrenching decisions.
