Yes, I heard the Biden warning to his family on the radio, I also heard a rebuttal by someone else.
LOL, I don’t see how the obama crew has time to get in trouble, for they spend all their time cleaning up each others messes.
Do you have an opinion on the airplane that flew low in New York City, for that one left me very confused.
As for the flu, I don’t know, suspect that since it is world wide, it is either to cover up the finance problems or they are really worried in other parts of the world.
I am getting hundreds of flu bulletins and opinions, LOL, almost quit reading them and am filing them under flu 2009.

That’s a great idea Granny. I read about the coffee can kits many years ago, don’t remember where. You can add whatever you think would be useful, but the main idea was having a way to make warm drinks and have extra snacks in case you were stranded in the snow. We’ve never had to use ours, but I always feel better knowing its there if anything happened.

Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting.
Well, for example, the other day I went downtown and into a shop. I was only there for about 5 minutes, and when I came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. I said to him, ‘Come on, man, how about giving a retired person a break’?
He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. I called him a ‘Nazi.’ He glared at me and wrote another ticket for having worn tires. So I called him a ‘doughnut eating Gestapo.’ He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he wrote a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more I abused him the more tickets he wrote.
Personally, I didn’t care. I came downtown on the bus, and the car that he was putting the tickets on had a bumper sticker that said, ‘Obama in ‘08 .’
I try to have a little fun each day now that I’m retired.
It’s important to my health.

Name of product: babyGap Children’s Coats
Units: About 19,200 in the U.S. and 3,900 in Canada
Retailer: Gap Inc., of San Francisco, Calif.
Hazard: The coats have toggle fasteners that could break and detach from the coat, posing a choking hazard to young children.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description: This recall involves three different children’s coat styles with toggles including Rose Toggle Hoodie (style 600298), Pink Duffle Coat (style 600344), and Blue Plaid and Mojave Toggle Coat (style 600942). The coats were sold in infant sizes up to 24 months and are made of cotton, polyester, or polyester/acrylic. The toggles are light tan plastic and about 1 3/4 inches long.
Sold at: babyGap, GapKids and Gap Stores nationwide and at www.gap.com from October 2008 through April 2009 for between $20 and $50.

Jardine Announces Second Recall Expansion of Cribs Sold by Babies’R’Us; Cribs Pose Entrapment and Strangulation Hazards
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Jardine Cribs
Units: About 96,000 (320,000 units were previously recalled in June 2008 and 56,450 units were recalled in January 2009)
Manufacturer: Jardine Enterprises, of Taipei, Taiwan
Hazard: The wooden crib slats can break, creating a gap, which can pose an entrapment and strangulation hazard to infants and toddlers.
Incidents/Injuries: CPSC has received 31 incident reports of slats breaking, including two reports of children becoming entrapped in the gap created by the broken slat on the crib models identified below. In 10 of these incidents, consumers reported that their child broke the slat while in the crib. There was one report of minor injuries (bumps and abrasions.)
Description: This recall involves 7 models of Jardine wooden cribs with the date codes identified below. Cribs with other date codes are not affected by this recall. The date code and model number are printed on the label located on the inside of the bottom rail of the headboard or footboard.

Hazard: The raincoats have a drawstring through the hood which poses a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines (pdf) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.
Incidents/Injuries: None reported.
Description: This recall involves the Pumpkin Patch hooded raincoat with drawstrings in girls sizes 2 through 10. The raincoat is a trench coat style and is red with pink polka-dots.

You can aDr. Bill dd whatever you think would be useful, but the main idea was having a way to make warm drinks and have extra snacks in case you were stranded in the snow.<<<<
Dr. Bill talked about what should be in cars at all times, he would approve your kit.
I think it is time to take a look at his other suggestions, for as the flu progresses, there is no way to know where you will be stranded, ordered to drive away from a riot, etc.
Walking shoes, always kept in car and desks, if working in an office.
Food, he favors peanut butter, Spam and your bars for energy.
Sleeping bags one per person.
Water.
Medical kit.
He lives in mountain snow country and says he has used them.
Makes sense, those folks running from the office buildings last week in New York, would have loved having running shoes in their desk.

I have to think there must be some foundation to the spread of the virus, for WHO has long been the only part of the UN that I paid any attention to.
I have read ProMedMail for several years now and have found that they tried to tell the truth and did not send out alarms, unless there was an alarm.
In the terrorism arena, they will say so if it is possible and say if it is not.....not often, but they do try to publish the facts and refuse to publish the ‘here say’.
There has been an expectation that a disease could go crazy with the ease of travel today.
I have watched the common diseases, such as mumps and measles, spread to other countries and they tracked it to the source, in some 3rd world country.
So the spread of this flu is not a surprise.

I really don’t know if that Dr. is for real or not, but I did order some bottles of ‘N - Acetyl Cysteine’ he spoke of. Seems it has been tried in animal trials and it prevents influenza from turning ugly.
“An animal study indicates that acetylcysteine decreases mortality associated with influenza significantly”
Also added some bottles of Vitamin D (D3)
Got a good deal from a company I have used for quite a while - actually they are a U.S. based manufacturer. Got 5 bottles for the price of 2. I have bought from them before and been very pleased with the product and service.

Secretary Sebelius Takes Two Key Actions On Strategic National Stockpile
13 Million Treatment Courses Purchased to Replenish Stocks Sent to the States, 400,000 Treatment Courses Deployed to Mexico
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced today that the Federal government will purchase an additional 13 million treatment courses to help fight influenza, including the 2009 H1N1 flu virus. The additional treatment courses will be added to the Strategic National Stockpile. The Secretary also announced that HHS began moving 400,000 treatment courses to Mexico to help slow the spread of the H1N1 virus.
“As this flu virus outbreak expands across the country, we have been taking necessary steps to ensure states have the resources they need,” said Sebelius. “The 13 million additional treatment courses that we will purchase will allow us to replenish our national stockpile and further ensure we are prepared to provide the American people with the treatments they may need to stay healthy.”
HHS has stockpiled approximately 50 million courses of antiviral drugs in the Strategic National Stockpile, and state stockpiles across the country include an additional 23 million more treatment courses. Earlier this week, HHS released a total of 11 million treatment courses to help all 50 states. Today HHS began moving 400,000 treatment courses to Mexico to help stop the spread of the virus. The 400,000 courses represent less than 1 percent of the total American stockpile.
As a result of today’s action by the Secretary, HHS will spend an estimated $251 million to refill the Strategic National Stockpile and replace the 11 million treatment courses offered to states and to purchase an additional two million treatment courses. These additional two million treatment courses will be used to replace those that have been provided to Mexico or could also be available to respond to other outbreak needs.
“Flu viruses don’t stop at the border, and it is imperative we do whatever we can to slow the spread of the virus and help stop this outbreak,” said Sebelius.
HHS will make Strategic National Stockpile experts available on a background briefing call at 7:15 PM to answer questions about today’s actions.

Beware of these instant cures, the vitamins and some herbs are useful, but miracle cures scare me.
One of the general yahoo groups that I followed after 9-11, picked up a gal with a miracle cure for Anthrax and it turned out she did not know what she was talking about, but she sold her miracle drops to several in the group, before they discovered she did not know what to do.
The real scare for me is that this flu attacks the lungs and they tell me that if I get pneumonia I am dead and there will be no miracle cures.
You have someone with lung problems, better to build them up with vitamins and minerals. Stay alert.

Influenza A(H1N1) - update 6
30 April 2009 — The situation continues to evolve rapidly. As of 17:00 GMT, 30 April 2009, 11 countries have officially reported 257 cases of influenza A (H1N1) infection.
The United States Government has reported 109 laboratory confirmed human cases, including one death. Mexico has reported 97 confirmed human cases of infection, including seven deaths.
The following countries have reported laboratory confirmed cases with no deaths - Austria (1), Canada (19), Germany (3), Israel (2), Netherlands (1), New Zealand (3), Spain (13), Switzerland (1) and the United Kingdom (8).
Further information on the situation will be available on the WHO website on a regular basis.
WHO advises no restriction of regular travel or closure of borders. It is considered prudent for people who are ill to delay international travel and for people developing symptoms following international travel to seek medical attention, in line with guidance from national authorities.
There is also no risk of infection from this virus from consumption of well-cooked pork and pork products. Individuals are advised to wash hands thoroughly with soap and water on a regular basis and should seek medical attention if they develop any symptoms of influenza-like illness.

We could use a couple of rain barrels about now. We have had so much rain the past week, the ground is soaked. I’m worried about the asparagus we planted 2 weekends ago. I don’t want it to rot. I keep thinking maybe I should go down there and pull them all out of the ground and replant them later.

Pumps with serial numbers including and above SN10006094 are not affected and no action is required by users of these pumps.
Disetronic Medical Systems Inc. announced today that it is notifying its customers, distributors and healthcare professionals about a potential defect in the “up” and/or “down” buttons of some ACCU-CHEK Spirit insulin pumps. This failure may present as an intermittent or complete loss of function of the “up” and/or “down” buttons. The pump’s “up” and “down” buttons are used for changing the program in the menu or to administer additional insulin through a bolus delivery. If the buttons do not function, users may not be able to change any programmed setting on the pump. If this failure occurs, the pump may not respond with a vibration or acoustic confirmation signal to a button press and the display will remain unchanged. This defect was discovered through the company’s normal quality control monitoring process.
The notifications provide specific actions and details that customers, distributors and healthcare professionals need to take. The pumps in question have serial numbers in the range from SN02119552 through SN10006093 (US market).
If the vibration or acoustic confirmation signal does not occur, the user should disconnect the pump, and switch to a back up pump or an alternative method of insulin delivery. Immediately contact ACCU-CHEK Spirit hotline for a replacement pump or for any other questions regarding this potential defect. Customers should expect the replacement pump within 1-2 business days after contacting ACCU-CHEK Spirit hotline at 1-800-778-5095. This number is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Disetronic will replace pumps within the affected serial numbers (SN02119552 to SN10006093) that have intermittent or complete loss of function of the “up” and/or “down” button promptly upon contact from the customer with a new pump that is not affected by the potential button failure. If you have any questions regarding this recall or questions pertaining to replacement, please contact ACCU-CHEK Spirit hotline at 1-800-778-5095 for further information. “We are making this proactive notification to our customers and other interested parties because we have seen a potential for the “up” and/or “down” buttons on some of our pumps to fail over a period of use,” said Dr. Mathias Neumann, Head of Global Quality Management Diabetes Care, Roche Diagnostics. “We are telling our customers to continue to use their ACCU-CHEK Spirit insulin pumps, but monitor the functioning of the “up” and “down” buttons. We have isolated the root cause of the defect and a fix to the problem has been implemented with SN10006094 and above,” said Dr. Neumann. “The problem is an interrupted electronic contact in the flexible board of the “up” and “down” button module caused over time by stress of this board during repeated pressing of the button.”

Ouch!
Asparagus does develop crown and root rot if too wet. It really prefers light, well drained soil.
Problem now is that after 2 weeks, it may be rooting and sprouting some already. Digging it up now might do more damage than good.
If soil is sandy and wet spell doesn’t last too long, it could be OK though...
