I really don’t know if that Dr. is for real or not, but I did order some bottles of ‘N - Acetyl Cysteine’ he spoke of. Seems it has been tried in animal trials and it prevents influenza from turning ugly.<<<<<

Not for human use I hope??

Beware of these instant cures, the vitamins and some herbs are useful, but miracle cures scare me.

One of the general yahoo groups that I followed after 9-11, picked up a gal with a miracle cure for Anthrax and it turned out she did not know what she was talking about, but she sold her miracle drops to several in the group, before they discovered she did not know what to do.

The real scare for me is that this flu attacks the lungs and they tell me that if I get pneumonia I am dead and there will be no miracle cures.

You have someone with lung problems, better to build them up with vitamins and minerals. Stay alert.

My thoughts..

Now Granny...... You know I don't go chasing windmills...

"Mucolytic therapy

Acetylcysteine is indicated for mucolytic ("mucus-dissolving") therapy as an adjuvant in respiratory conditions with excessive and/or thick mucus production. Such conditions include emphysema, bronchitis, tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, amyloidosis, pneumonia. It is also used post-operatively, as a diagnostic aid, and in tracheotomy care. It may be considered ineffective in cystic fibrosis.[1] However, a recent paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reports that high-dose oral N-acetylcysteine modulates inflammation in cystic fibrosis and has the potential to counter the intertwined redox and inflammatory imbalances in CF.[2] Oral acetylcysteine may also be used as a mucolytic in less serious cases."

Acetylcysteine is marketed under these trade names:
* ACC (Hexal AG) * Acetadote (Cumberland Pharmaceuticals) * ASİST (Bilim Pharmaceuticals) * Fluimucil (Zambon) * Lysox (Menarini) * Mucinac (Cipla, India) * Mucolysin (Sandoz) * Mucomelt-A tab (Venus Remedies, India) * Mucomyst (Bristol-Myers Squibb) * Parvolex (GSK) * Trebon N (Uni-pharma).

NOT a CURE... Just helps cut the mucus that is a problem not only with flu, but with bronchial COPD too. (which I have).

I already take vitamin C and E, and am adding the vitamin D as discussed here earlier. Keeping antioxidants up, immunity strong and mucus under control - sounds like a course I would find beneficial flu or not...
