WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama have made a surprise stop at a public school to read to children.
The Obamas were at the Capital City Public Charter School in northwest Washington Tuesday. The president told a group of gleeful second-graders: “We were just tired of being in the White House.”
A moment earlier the president shook each child’s hand.
"Now let's talk about going to college. Y'all want to uhh go to college don't you? Can you black kids say 'affirmative action'? Very good. You sound like a future Harvard man Tyrone. You white kids are going to have to go to community college right Michelle?"
There are only fifty states ? - who knew?......
I watched a education forum on cSPAN a few weeks ago, very interesting, the head of DC schools is a Oriental lady who believes they are good, the white head of NOLA schools went to NOLA from Chicago, is also in favor of charter schools and said they are at 50% charter and rising, he plans to be 100% in a couple of years... the head of Baltimore was so-so on them, the head of NYC is dead set against them. All-in-all, it was interesting and something everyone should see, the educators there (Harvard) thought they are TERRIBLE! — this is the people teaching educators who think all kids should go to public schools and are upset at the end of affirmtive action...
Hmmm ... Bush read to young students on 9/11 and the left went apoplectic. Here are the Obama reading to a similar group while people are freezing in Kentucky ... what does the media say now? Any vein popping anger?

The head of DC Public Schools (Michelle Rhee) has been impressive ... and what a challenge she took on !!! Highest $ paid per student/lowest scores in the USA.
Unless a family lives in the “right” part of DC, they won’t even consider sending their kids to public school. Any family that can scrape together the tuition sends kids at least to parochial schools. One family that surely lives in the right part of town even sends its daughters to Sidwell Friends ;)
But we can only put so much on the schools. Unless and until parents get involved, make sure the kids make it to school, get their assignments done, etc., it’s all for naught.
