Bate argues that the "lovely boy" sequences, like the poetry of John Davies of Hereford, reflect the perplexingly bisexual, homoerotic milieu of the early Jacobean court, and have nothing to do with Shakespeare's own encounters. I was really worried about that. ;') I read a couple of books on Shakespeare last year, or rather, read one, and read about half of the other (I ran out of renewals at the library). My sister or her husband borrowed another one I bought used and had read, and come to think of it, it's still over there...
