Seacrest says whatever they're going to do with the results tonight is a "new rule".

Seacrest elaborates, he has us look at elimination video of Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, Tamyra Gray. "America, you told us they left too soon."

Okay let me see if I have this right:

The judges can "save" an eliminated contestant. But the decision has to be unanimous--all four judges must say yes.

The catch is, if they do that, no one will be eliminated that week. And the season will run that much longer.

Simon assures us that this isn't reversing America's decision. Then what is it then?

Only one save per season.

Maybe this is the judges flip the bird to that site that encouraged the best singers not get votes...remember that site?
Just another guess.

The judges pimped so hard for Tamyra in season 1 that it's a wonder they didn't all have a collective heart attack when she was voted off in 4th place. Her career has gone nowhere since. If Kelly had been voted off early, the judges wouldn't have minded a bit, but look at the career she's had so far.

The judges pimped so hard for Fantasia in season 3, that they are the reason Jennifer was voted off early. Besides, she's won an Oscar, but her albums and singles have not been selling much.

As for Daughtry, he kept doing the same thing every week and the audience got tired of it. I'm not sure the judges would have brought him back if they had the chance then. Foresight isn't 20-20, hindsight is.

The following week there would be two eliminations. AND, they can only use the save once in a season AND once we get to the top 5 they cannot use it.

Having said that, they would NOT have been able to save Daughtry with this new rule because Daughtry was eliminated at from the top 4! Simon assures us that this isn't reversing America's decision. Then what is it then?

At least it's not as horrible as we all thought it would be. It's still sort of dumb. None of the people they mentioned would have been saved except for Jennifer Hudson (who I think went 6th). They are still just ticked Taylor Hicks won.
