http://mjsbigblog.com/itunes-ranking-for-the-wildcard-show-oops-matt-giraud-and-anoop-desai-lead-the-pack.htm
Yoinked from primeminsters post in the headlines thread: (lolz at the Tatiana comment)
Wildcard Ranking by Popularity Bars:
1. Matt Giraud
2. Anoop Desai
3. Megan Corkrey(huge gap)
4. Jasmine Murray
5. Ricky Braddy
6. Jesse Langseth
7. Von Smith
8. Tatiana Del Toro
The review cautiously says Jasmine "brings the much desired diversity." It too-cutely says the reason Jorge got into the top 13 is because he "started blabbering in Spanish." They talk about Scott's blindness, saying, "I don't want to come off as insensitive...but if Scott wasn't blind, he wouldn't have made the Top 13." (Meaning if he wasn't blind, he'd be just another white dude.)
And then the reviewer says this about Adam Lambert:
Coming across as too over-the-top will be the season-long struggle for Adam. Even if he knows that this is a complaint, will Adam want to tone it down? We don't know. Can he? We don't know.
The reviewer is totally dancing around the fact that, even though Adam is, indeed, the most genuinely talented contestant, he performs like a flaming queen.
Well, without Jasmine there would have only been one black person.
I think the author thought Ricky Braddy may have been more deserving of a spot, than McIntyre, or Jasmine or Sarver.
I dislike that that AI didn’t show us Braddy’s audition, didn’t show us anything from him during Hollywood week, yet they all loved him. So, all we have to go on is what we saw, and in both instances he did well, while some that made it didn’t. Jasmine’s first showing stunk, so the author may have a point.
They said that this year the results shows were only going to be a 1/2 hour. I just looked and they are scheduled for 1 hour tomorrow night.
That's probably why they wanted two singers though why West though?
I suppose it would have been asking too much for them to have had Taylor Hicks on to promote his new CD like Kelly. That would have required them to be decent, fair and balanced, something AI can't seem to do.
Nea, I ordered my TH CD after you sent me that great link and I got it today. The cd only has one extra track and the hide Nor Hair song that you commented on came with the cd from Wal Mart. Not sure how we go about hearing the other two extras.
I just read an interesting theory and I think its probably correct.
The reason for a top 13 is because, there is no Idol Gives Back this year, a week in which no one would have gone home. So... they needed another person and voila, a top 13.
I’m rooting for one of the wildcards to be booted first. I’m evil like that, just the idea that someone failed completely gain the public’s support makes me grin. :-)
The wild cards would seem like the logical choice since they didn’t make it the first time.
So, that would be Jasmine, Megan, Anoop and Matt G.
Do you think all 3 will come from the wild cards?
No, I think Alexis will find herself in the bottom 3. Thin voice, no star power.... that’s a toxic combo on the big idol stage.
I totally agree with you about Ricky Braddy.
Alexis? The one that sang Aretha with so much soul and conviction? Wow. I think there are a few others whose voices are more thin and lack star power even more.
The reason is m.o.n.e.y and ratings. West currently has an album out with a single that was not a #1 hit, but which peaked at #4 and has lingered in the top 10 for quite awhile. The album did peak at #1 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It's been on that chart for 15 weeks and is still sitting at #4.
Also, to be totally blunt, the "Urban" genre that encompasses R&B, hip-hop and rap, is the black segment of the music industry. As such, it gets huge radio airplay in the big urban markets, in the same places where most Democrat voters live. From the very beginning, the American Idol production team has been nothing, if not completely politically correct. They have always done everything possible to be inclusive of the lucrative "Urban" music market. In the past, they haven't tried as hard with the equally lucrative Latin music market, but this year's visit to Puerto Rico is a clear effort to do so.
I still say they should have given that second spot to the other AI winner that has a new CD out today, Taylor Hicks. I agree they have bent over backwards to help the urban music. Can you say Fantasia?
I'd rather not, thank you. ;-)
While we're on the subject, who can forget the way the judges pimped for Ruben Studdard over Clay Aiken.
I didn’t watch the first two seasons, but, I can imagine. It seemed to me that they had made up their minds already and did whatever it took to give it to Fantaiser. If they were going to rig it they might as well have chosen someone good looking that could sing circles around Fantaiser. Latoya or Jennifer. Either one were more deserving in my opinion and they would have been better ambassadors for Idol. jmo
The folks over at "American Idol" have hit a XXX snag by upping the final 12 to 13 this year. Turns out the sequenced telephone number for contestant 13 is already in use -- by a phone sex company."A.I" only owns twelve numbers (1-866-IDOLS-01 through 1-866-IDOLS-12) -- the prescient porn company snatched up 1-866-IDOLS-13.
Serves the AI producers' oh-so-PC butts right...
Actually, Taylor IS supposed to appear on AI this season. I’m thinking he might be on March 11th, because he has a day off from “Grease” that day. (As you probably know, he’s on tour with “Grease,” and they’re in California right now.)
They tried to do the same thing in season 1 when they pimped so hard for Tamyra Gray from the very beginning. Simon said she was going to win it when they were still in the top 36 eliminations (or whatever the number was that year). The judges were absolutely SHOCKED when she got booted before even making the top 3. The second season, they were absolutely bound and determined to push a black person over the top. Ruben didn't pan out, so we got Fantasia the next year, and she finally managed to crack the Urban music market for the AI powers that be.
Yeah it will be interesting to see what they do about it. The first I heard of this was Sunday, per my post via Dial Idol
From Dial Idol
Hey all - so I spend so much time working on DialIdol during the year I dont often have my pulse on everything going on outside of DialIdol. Thats usually where you all keep me up-to-date and I appreciate it!
One thing I noticed this weekend while I was testing and I am wondering if anyone had heard anything about - phone numbers!
We all know the phone numbers to vote : 1-866-436-5701 through 5712.
Usually if you call these numbers outside a voting window they are busy and that is the case today.
However... This year there are 13 contestants. It appears that American Idol does not own 1-866-436-5713 (or 1-866-436-5700 for that matter). Id advise you not to call either number as the content is not rated G.
This raises the question - what the heck are they going to do for the 13th contestant? Has anything heard anything? New numbers? New voting system entirely? A lone non-contiguous number? Are they frantically trying to buy the number? Am I just dialing wrong?
Hmmm...
Jim
