I saw the "adorable dimples" actually get dimplier on the "Meow!" She better watch out...he was definitely making a play!

That’s a nice break for Sligh. He was not a great performer, but his songs are very good.

I agree he is a very good song writer.

"What's wrong with you kids? Don't you like clowns? Stop crying!"

LMAO!! That's pretty much what happened, too.

FYI, there was a report on some spolier website that she did NOT make it past the Hollywood round, and is indeed now in Europe on tour...

This week’s AI was, in a word, B O R I N G.

If this is what they have for us this season, I’ll pass. I keep hearing that they’re going to show less of the crazies and the no-talents, but it seems to me that if we’re only seeing/hearing 3 to 6 of 19 contestants who made it to H’wood, we’re still seeing way too many crazies & no-talents, and not enough of the ones who make it to the next round.

I want to see more talent and less weirdos. Anybody agree?

I agree...extremely boring so far. And the new judge adds nothing to the mix.

Paula is much too sedate. Bring back the bad and crazy Paula!

The following is an excerpt. Please click link embedded in title to read the entire piece, listen to Joanna's horrible demo, and see her Barbara Walters interview.

Is Joanna Pacitti The Next Carly Smithson?
by Lyndsey Parker, Yahoo Music, 1/22/09

Hey, remember all the controversy caused when Carly Hennessy -- an Irish pop singer who'd been signed to MCA... -- resurfaced as Carly Smithson on season 7 of American Idol?

Viewers...were understandably outraged that this show, a show presumably focused on giving undiscovered talent a chance, was being used as a relaunching pad to revive the fizzled career of this has-been (or never-was).

Anyway, I honestly can NOT believe the AmIdol producers are up to their old sneaky tricks in season 8. You'd think after all that Carly hullaballoo, they would steer clear of such blatant favoritism and the inclusion of what are known in the Idol blogosphere as "plants." But...no.

...like Carly, who ended up getting dropped from MCA and becoming a waitress, things also didn't work out for Joanna quite as she or her Svengalis (among them Geffen Records honcho and frequent reality-TV figure Ron Fair) had planned. Despite appearances on the movie soundtracks for Legally Blonde, Nancy Drew, and Bratz, and having one of her songs covered by Britney Spears, Joanna's one album for Geffen/A&M, This Crazy Life, was a flop.

It turns out that Joanna's short-lived tenure with A&M/Geffen wasn't her first career setback: Her firing from the touring company of Annie, when she was just 12 years old, was apparently such a psyche-destroying blow, it became the subject of an in-depth Barbara Walters report. Just check out this 1996 clip and try not to retch...

Her being signed to a record company slightly annoyed me before. Finding out she was one of those overly dramatic and precocious theater children makes me want to kick her with a pointy boot.

Why on earth did was the firing of "Annie" a big enough news story to warrant 2 segments on 20/20??

I thought maybe 1996 was slow news year, so I looked up the top news stories from that year:

Link

Israel elects Netanyahu
Crash of TWA Flight 800
Russia elects Yeltsin
U.S. elects Clinton
Hutu-Tutsi conflict in central Africa
Peace, elections in Bosnia
U.S. base bombed in Saudi Arabia
Centennial Olympic Games (plus Olympic Park boming)
Advances against AIDS
Unabomb suspect Ted Kaczynski arrested

"Annie" was annoying when I was seven. I officially dislike Joanna.

Wasn't Geffen connected with Disney/ABC at the time? Joanna was one of Geffen's pet projects.

Grin...at least the dog is cute. (I don't like Joanna, either. Did you listen to her caterwauling in that demo?)

Just my My 2 cents...My guess is maybe he doesn’t want to ride on the coatails of other Osmonds’sucsesses.
Or maybe, wants to prove he can do well without resorting to nepotism.

I’m sure he will be asked why this AI route choice, by R S and/ or the Judges...
We shall find out very soon.

My guess is that Donny and Marie probably don’t have much in the way of coattails anymore and AI at least gets national exposure.

Donny has coatails I think,if I have anything to say about it.:)LOL! Marie, not so much.
Typed like the Donny fan that I am,LOL!

*I’m not a momo, nononeverneverunhunhunh and Donny is much older than I...* but I enjoy his talent/singing/humor and looks... have since I knew he existed.

Right now though Donny is more popular in Europe. But still plenty busy/famous in America, people like me just have to search harder for Donny news/music/shows,etc... is all, these days.

But right now D & M are doing a concert/show in Vegas...extended run...I haven’t gone, but know about it,and other projects Donny is doing still.

As for Marie, or any other Osmond I don’t really keep up on.
Never really have.If Donny’s not part of the deal, I’m not interested in other Osmond endeavers.

Thanks for the reply!

Looks like Donny and Marie’s nephew doesn’t really need their coattails. He has his own and hasa for quite some time. Just another plant.

David Osmond is the 4th son of Alan and Suzanne Osmond.

He has been the lead singer of the Osmond Second Generation since he was 4. Discovered by the late Bob Hope, David and his brothers appeared on his 1986 Christmas show for their first National Television debut. Starting as a Barbershop Quartet, they later formed a pop group, The Osmond Boys, which evolved into The Osmond 2nd Generation. He and his brothers have traveled to over 14 different countries, singing in many of their languages. They signed with both Curb Records and Epic/Sony in Europe. They have had three songs in the top 40 in the U.K. and have appeared on MTV, Good Morning America, Live with Regis and Kathy Lee, CBS This Morning, Entertainment Tonight, CNN and other major shows and networks. They have performed to sold-out stadiums and arenas in the U.S., Europe and Asia and were youth chairmen for the Children’s Miracle Network.

During his High School years he performed with his family at the Osmond Family Theater in Branson, Missouri. On the musical production stage, David seamlessly stepped into the theatrical lead role of “Joseph” in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He earned public acclaim when he filled in for his Uncle Donny in the Salt Lake City run of the show. Afterwards, he continued in the lead role as Joseph on the National Tour.

He served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Madrid, Spain starting in October 1998. He attended Brigham Young University (BYU) as well as New York University (NYU) where he was asked by the President to share his talents there in a production of Guys and Dolls. He recreated his role as Joseph at the Tuacahn Theater in the summer of 2002 along with a new role in Annie Get Your Gun on alternate nights at the theater.

David continued his education at Utah Valley University (UVU) while being involved in numerous musical projects and performances all over the US. He has been working as a studio musician for the last several years and appears as a Guest Artist on many album projects around the world.

From coat tails/nepotism to AI plant...Yup...looks like!

But my Osmond interest is only Donny,(not including his religion.)

Thanks anyway...for going to all that effort to find factoids. And for the ping, again!

He also performed in the documentary feature film "Words and Music" for PBS. After “Showtune,” Tom became a founding member of the Garson Theatre Co. in Santa Fe and starred in “The Laramie Project” directed by Nick Mangano.

Donny and Marie both are quite active on Braodway, I guess, from what I have read. They had a hard time coming up with time for the Vegas show. I don’t follow Broadway that closely, but they both seem to still do that.
