Have been watching previews for "Gran Torino", and have to admit actually I might be hooked.
Except every time I decide to go spend money on a movie, I end up hacked off at sending money to liberals, for yet another preachy bit of pc bull.
Anyone know if Gran Torino is just more liberal propaganda?... if it is, I'm not supporting it.
Odds are, even this one is. Even with Clint Eastwood.
Hoping maybe, it's the rare exception?
In the trailers we see Clint using a shotgun to protect his property, in this case, a car that local gangsters are trying to steal. Doesn’t seem very pc or liberal to me.
The sad thing is that the movie got tax breaks to be made here in Michigan. It’s nice that they got a tax break but tax breaks for Hollywood do next to nothing for our economy.
How bout some tax breaks for real industry.
I believe several of Clint’s recent movies have to do with atoning for his early vigilante persona.
I guess if Sean Penn or George Clooney is not in it, then it has a chance of being a real movie.
Make no mistake, Clint sold out. Nothing out of Hollywood is worth $10
Totally awesome! I’m VERY sensitive to PC stuff, and this movie had NONE of it..!
I saw it in limited release here over the holidays. I thought it was the best movie i’d seen since “Redbelt”.
I’d say “go”.
“Clint Eastwood stars as Walt Kowalski, a widower who holds onto his prejudices despite the changes in his Michigan neighborhood and the world around him. Kowalski is a grumpy, tough-minded, unhappy an old man, who can’t get along with either his kids or his neighbors, a Korean War veteran whose prize possession is a 1972 Gran Torino he keeps in mint condition. When his neighbor Tao, a young Hmong teenager under pressure from his gang member cousin, tries to steal his Gran Torino, Kowalski sets out to reform the youth. Drawn against his will into the life of Tao’s family, Kowalski is soon taking steps to protect them from the gangs that infest their neighborhood.”
Looks promising, being anti-discrimination, yet a hard ass.
It’s great - Eastwood’s best performance since “Unforgiven”.
My daughter saw it ( she only watches Lifetime chick movies and TLC) and she normally wouldn’t go see something like this. She called me and said we have to see it.
NOT for the kiddies.
I haven’t seen the movie but this does not look like a liberal movie...
its clint eastwood for one and he’s holding a shotgun about to blow gang members to pieces...
that alone would make it worth to watch
I hope it is good. It would be nice to see Clint return to his roots. I wish he would do at least one more western even if he only directs.
The best Clint Eastwood movie ever!
A great conservative role model.
I can’t recall a single scene that had PC agitprop in it, nope..! The main themes in the film:
1. Gangs bad
2. Use of firearms for defense —good
3. Marriage —good
4. Sticking up for friends —good
5. Fighting for your country —good
6. Religion —good
7. Neighborhood safety —good
The bad-guys in the film are Hmong gang-bangers, and the hero is an old white Korean War veteran.
Freeper rating = SIX stars..! Worth seeing a second time, yep!
I think the basic premise is: (STOP READING *SPOILER* just what I saw from the trailer)
Clint is mean old conservative racist who lives in a duplex like house. His new neighbors are Chinese and he hates them because he is a “racist.”
His neighbors have a teenage son. There is a driveby with Asia/Hispanic/who knows homies who shoot up the house. The Asian neighbors he hates are threatened and scared and Clint saves the day. Becomes friends with neighbors.
I got this from seeing the trailer not the film. I still like Clinton but he has had real lefty scum in some of his films.
I recall listening to Savage blasting his Sean Penn film when a guy driving called into the radio show. It was Clint. Savage was shocked. Savage asked him why he had vermin in the film. Clint said see the film and don’t judge the actors. Sorry Clint.
Oh, I forgot:
8. White boys who try to act hip-hop —STUPID..! (truely hilarious scene)
One of my favorites this year (and I HATE most movies).
Clin not Clinton - bad typo sorry. ;-)
I’m going tomorrow to see it with my 2 boys.....
I’m going.
Thanks for all the feedback everyone. :)
Let’s make this movie a blockbuster - maybe the dopes in the Hollywood corner offices, would start to make the connection:
“It’s the leftist nonsense, stupid”.
