"Gran Torino" (Clint Eastwood, opens today). Usual Hollywood PC baloney, or worth $10?

One of my favorite lines was him asking the girl’s “date’ if he was trying to be a super-spade!!! Too funny.

I will see this one. If you want another nice current movie, Benjamin Button is awesome.

This new Eastwood flick looks completely great, though.

Next time you see a movie, do what I do : ignore any political message or what you know of the actors and their own opinions. Pretend you are a kid watching a film, and enjoy it as visual literature.

There's nothing wrong with enjoying a film. Life is short.

There is nothing PC about this movie.

Josey Wales, with Unforgiven a close second.

Not a shotgun, an M1.

I'll take your word on the make of the weapon. In the trailer you only see the scene for a second and I admit I was admiring Clint's sneer. It being Hollywood, I assumed it was a shotgun.

It is not your standard Clint. Different kind of ending, no spoilers here but not what you might expect from the “Make My Day” persona.

I noticed it and thought that somebody knows what he's doing vis a vis the character. A shotgun is a civilian weapon. Clint, playing a Korean War vet should have an M1 in his hands. It's a good, smart touch.

I too have only seen the trailers, but for a casual gun nut such as myself it was instantly obvious to me that it was an M1 Garand, and as WTC said, it makes sense to the story that a Korean War vet would be comfortable with the weapon that he used in combat. Maybe there’s even a brief backstory about it in the movie, I dunno.

In any case, it’s a minor point, and I’d say 90% of Americans couldn’t tell the difference either.

“Outlaw Joey Wales hands down”

Although the cast and setting of this movie are completely different, Clint has mixed Josie Wales and Unforgiven. There is no PC content. Don’t take any kids under 13. The language is a bit colorful.

He did it well. Two thumbs up.

Hmongs were the good guys. We should have treated them a lot better than we did.

BTW: Gran Torino is heading for #1

That was an obscure Seinfeld reference. I forgot to add a tag. Brody was a menacing little guy that got Jerry to record movies inside the theater.

I checked that site out and was surprised they had those movies available. Another poster said he picked up a virus from it.

Don’t look for a political comment in the film. Just go and enjoy. Probably Clint’s last role as a star ever...and he brings it home.

Good flick - I would see it again.

I agree...you said all that needs to be said.

$10? See it. It is worth it.

Lost my Dad 2 years ago - old age and disease wore him out. Clint Eastwood plays a character that reminds me very much of my dad. Perhaps a bit more "brash" and exaggerated in his grouchiness than Dad was, but the personality trend is there. Like my Dad, Clint faced his end-time and became more mellow. He blew off many of the things that he spoke so strongly against in his earlier years.

I saw it a couple of days ago. Rethinking the plot brings a tear to my eyes, but not in a bad way - rather, in a positive way in that the movie ends with Eastwood as a hero.

Make no mistake, Clint sold out. Nothing out of Hollywood is worth $10

I saw it - it's worth it!

Thanks for saying that. I enjoyed this film, but there are other aspects of life where political messages can blur the situation. And I'm susceptible to political messages most of the time. But not during "Gran Torino".

It's interesting following Clint's movie career - spaghetti westerns to Dirty Harry to "Any Which Way but Loose". And then later, "Million Dollar Baby" (very good) and finally, "Gran Torino". What a career, and what a variety. He grew through his films, and yet, many of the old ones are quite good as well.
