The creepy lifelike quality of these babies remind me of the old Victorian photos of dead children. Parents would dress up their recently deceased children in Sunday finery and pose them before the camera.

These photos were truly macabre. The expressionless faces and glazed, vacant stares of the children would give it all away. Some already showed rigor mortis or other signs of decomposition.

True story. When my wife and I bought our first house our neighbor and her female friend came out one day to introduce themselves. My wife started talking about how we had two kids. The neighbor started talking about her kids, how one was like 6 months old and the other a year and a half. She went on and on about them. It wasn't until deep into the conversation that my wife figured out she was talking about Cabbage Patch dolls.

This neighbor was nuts. We found out later she had been kicked out of a local pharmacy for breast feeding her cabbage patch doll.
