Winter in Yellowstone is a time of year when the pace slows, when tourist travel diminishes to a mere trickle, and only the brave (or foolish) set out with camera and tripod in the hopes of capturing unique images. It is a time of struggle for wildlife, of countless epic battles for survival between predator and prey, the outcome determining who lives another day, and who starves to death in the frozen waste. It is a time of deep snow and mercilessly cold temperatures that wreak havoc on equipment, batteries, and appendages. And above all, it is a whale of a good time!

Yellowstone is a beautiful area. I hope to get the chance to get back out there again sometime. I was there in late April.

I was there in late June this past year and I was almost overwhelmed by the beauty and the wildlife. Grand Teton National Park is wonderful and Jackson is a great town. Everyone needs to go there.

I took a few minutes to check out Ian Plant's website.
The galleries are a must see!

Was there in summer, and, another year, when winter set in. Even saw a blizzard. Pictures can’t do it justice.
The smells. The tingling in the air. The sound of branches, aspen leaves, elk calls, water. And Mammoth Hot Springs’ sulfur is phew.

"And Mammoth Hot Springs sulfur is phew"
The EPA needs to get after the Park Service for their uncontrolled, dangerous emissions in Jellystone.

One of my all-time favorite webcams:
Old Faithful Geyser Live Webcam
There is a person somewhere that pans around and zooms in and out on the geyser all day long, so you're not just stuck looking at a steaming vent. Really a fascinating way to get there when you can't get there. You'll see lots of wildlife ... the colder it gets the more you tend to see. Critters are smart enough to get warm any way that they can!
