Help I have a Border Collie / mix Dog He is 1 1/2 yrs old, he is a very smart dog, The other night I had to go looking for him and found him on a deer.... still alive! He has a sisiter that is 6 months old and is a Black Lab /mix. she to was with him shortly getting in on the action. I pulled him off. and scolded him allthe way home, this moring I let them out and went in to bake a cake, 30 min. i called them to come in and no one came. I put on my jacket and when out to look for them. Just as I started up the 4 wheeler they both came running around the shop and both are cover in blood. I called to the boder collie and asked him to show me what he caught and he took me to the dead deer. Is this something I shuld be worried about? How do I stop this from ever happening again, some one help! There must be a way I do not want to have to put him down. thank you
I know for sure coyotes, which are smaller than most dogs, will kill deer.
I shot one one last weekend in the act.
MY dogs chase deer all the time! Uh huh.
LOL!!!!
/sarcasm....dripping.....heavily
Actually.......I’ve never had one. BUT. They sound like a FUN CHALLENGE!!!!
When I get these two GSD’s to where I want them...and if we can move out of here & get some land in a decent state....I’d LOVE to get a border collie.
My Fathers BC never slept!
Border Collies and Australian Shepherds dominate their classes at Dog Agility competitions. My 65 year young friend has a large wall full of ribbons and awards for his A/S. As a matter of fact he dropped dead 3 Sundays ago while staging his Joie for a run here at the fairgrounds. God said no way and had a nurse and a doctor in attendance to start CPR plus the fire department was in another building collecting toys and they had a defibrillator with them. He had bypass surgery the next day and is none the worse for wear.
No Deer were harmed in his survival...
Careful what you wish for. Border Collies are 24/7 maintenance.
They demand to be worked.
Our youngest GSD is pretty much already a BC in disguise...so yeah. I (gulp) think I know......
My Dad dropped dead working his Border Collie in a tracking contest in MI
Glad your friend is ok, and I am glad my Dad died doing what he loved.
That said. Aussies are much less demanding but equally hard working dogs.
Thats what Mom has now. They do agility.
Well, isn't that something??? :)
YOWZA's on your friend!!! I'm really happy God wasn't done with him yet, here on earth...for all of your sakes.
What is a GSD?
German Shepherd Dog.
Also good dogs. Very protective
Yep on both counts. The young one is VERY intense and smart..and DOES by nature, do a swell job of herding her older sister.
Which is sad, really....cuz the older one doesn’t NEED nor WANT herding.
Gotta buy some land....and sheep. ;)
Very unlikely that your dogs killed the deer.
What a fine looking dog!
