The Polyphonic Spree

I love their recordings but was underwhelmed when I saw a performance played on a music channel on DirectTV. Do they translate well to a live venue?

Trans-Siberian Orchestra about a month ago.

Completely different than we expected. Guess a little research beforehand was in order.

A dazzling light, laser and pyrotechnic show.
Music? Hard rock. Excellent musicians.
Bottom line, glad we went to see them.. once.

Keith Urban -

Awesome concert....he’s an amazing performer and finds pure joy in his interaction with the audience.

He’s pretty cute to look at too.....

It’s amazing what you can see on DVD.

Any entertainer that is a leftist I do not go and see or purchase their cd’s or movies.

Me too. I walked out of a John Prine concert. I walked out of a Steve Forbert concert. I made a point to see Forbert every time he was nearby and will no longer see him now that he has gotten political - and he could use the money. Todd Snider was also a favorite of mine until he recently became political. He will not get any more of my money either.

It’s kinda funny. I’m in country and classic rock cover bands but I don’t watch big name concerts.

The reason is simple: I don’t do TicketMaster and I don’t pay over $50 to see any act.

I did see the beach boys a couple months ago but that is strictly because John Carlson of KVI gave them to me for free on the air.

I do have a lot of concert DVD’s though.

Heh, heh, other than seeing the Beach Boys for free a couple months ago, my last big name was Genesis back in 1981.

I usually avoid big name acts and concerts held at sports arenas.

Well, you’re sweet but it’s embarrassing. I play keyboards and sing. I also play bass on one song (Gimme Some Lovin’).

Robert Plant/Allison Krause
Lucero (the rock band from Memphis, not the Mexican diva)
Thad Cockrell
Alejandro Escovedo
Nick Lowe
Bad Livers (Danny Barnes rules!)
Richard Thompson (fantastic musician, too bad he's such a leftist)
Roan Mountain Hilltoppers
Jerry Douglas
Wayne Hancock (will be seeing him on Dec. 27)

Out of all those I would love to see Richard Thompson with his band. Not solo
Plant/Krause would be nice for ten minutes

Oddly enough, I don’t think I went to any big-name concerts at all this year. I’ve been to a load the past couple years, and am generally pretty good at scoring free tickets so it’s all affordable. In any case, I’ve probably seen a couple local indie bands...
