A deluge that swept the Land of Israel more than 7,000 years ago, submerging six Neolithic villages opposite the Carmel Mountains, is the origin of the biblical flood of Noah, a British marine archeologist said Tuesday. Yeah, that explains the worldwide nature of global deluge legends.

It is interesting that every major religion around the world says something of a flood event.

"The bottom line," he concluded, "is that overall evidence of [a] world submerged in flood does not exist." The evidence for such an event is overwhelming, he just has his eyes tightly closed to it. The stupid thing is, both evolutionists and creationists agree the world has been 100% flooded. It's just that creationists believe it happened twice, once at creation and again at the Flood. (evolutionists believe in a 100% water covered earth during the pre-Cambrian, surprisingly - making a mockery of many of their anti-flood criticisms.)
http://creationontheweb.com/content/view/3007 has some of the evidence for a global flood.

Kingsley, a self-declared atheist, said he had begun studying the origins of Noah's flood five years ago as a result of his interest into "how mythologies came into existence," as well as a desire to connect the biblical story with global warming.A G E N D A ....in triplicate.

"What's more convincing scientifically, a flood in the Black Sea, so far away from Israel and the fantasy of a supposed ark marooned on the slopes of Mount Ararat, or six submerged Neolithic villages smack-bang in the middle of the Bible Land?" Gee, he might have a point if the story actually originated in Israel. But it didn't. It's a variation of the story of Gilgamesh that the Jews picked up when they lived in Babylon.

submerged Neolithic villages smack-bang in the middle of the Bible Land While we imagine we know where the Ark ended up, where was it built? Where did Noah live before the Flood?

I’ll have to admit I’m sketchy on the OT and the history of the Jews, but didn’t they originate in or near Mesopotamia (I’ve read speculation that the Garden of Eden is in what is now Iraq) and migrate to Israel much later?

Ill have to admit Im sketchy on the OT and the history of the Jews, but didnt they originate in or near Mesopotamia (Ive read speculation that the Garden of Eden is in what is now Iraq) and migrate to Israel much later? When Israel was conquered by Nebuchadnezzer in the 6th century BC, he deported the Jews to Babylon. They were assimlated into that culture and were generally well educated people. When the Persians conquered Babylon the Jews were allowed to return to Israel.
When they came back, they then had the Torah, much of which was influenced by the Babylonian culture. So Genesis places Eden near Babylon, and Noah is a variation on the Babylonian story of Gilgamesh.

Here's a test.
Find some New Orleans Katrina survivors.
Ask them to describe what happened.
If none of them says everything was flooded, I'll give you a dollar.

Thanks for the info. I knew about the story of Gilgamesh and that it probably referred to the same event as Genesis, but never was clear on how the Jews got from Eden to Israel.

It would be rather more relevant if they insisted that the tops of all the buildings, even the skyscrapers, were flooded. Genesis 7:19.

Yeah. I didn't expect you'd have the guts to try it, nor the imagination to envision how a even a couple generations of an oral tradition that
everything was covered by water would come to be told as
everything was covered by water,
everything.

Stories can grow in the telling. But it also sounds like you are not allowing yourself to consider the possibility of a global cataclysm. If you automatically ‘reinterpret’ the documentary evidence to say what you want it to say, then you never really gave it a chance in the first place.
Merry Christmas,
