TAMPA, FL -- Angel the pit bull received quit a bit of attention recently after her story exposed many people to her plight. She was tossed from a moving car and managed to move her malnourished body to a home while she waited to be rescued. She is making a tremendous recovery so she was able to lead Saturday's Pit Bulls Pounding the Pavement Parade at the corner of Bayshore and Bay To Bay Boulevard.
She joined at least 40 other so called bully breeds and their owners for a 4 mile walk to promote a positive image for a breed that takes its share of verbal abuse. Angel was able to walk for a while until her caretakers took over to give her a breather.
Inquiries came from Georgia and North Carolina asking about how to help Angel. Most animal care organizations say there are many more abused animals similar to Angel we just don't hear about it and often the animals don't survive. Angel's pictures are shocking but her will to live is nothing short of remarkable.
Angel's is getting special help with Sunday's fund raiser to help with her medical bills from 9am-1pm at the Village Grooming 14442 N Dale Mabry, Tampa. Dog baths are offered for a $10 donation that includes nail trim, ear cleaning and the works!
It was not nice, and just 2 days after the anniversary of my dearly beloved Shana dog’s death.
I simply was trying to let Tara have her way when I was cutting. I should’ve made her lie down again, or forced her to stand still. Cutting with scissors-type clippers, right-handed on the left-side rear foot. I’ve never done so badly before and I was afraid I’d cut her toe, it kept bleeding and I couldn’t tell what happened! I’d like to try those Peticures (same principle as Dremel) but I definitely like the scissors better than the guillotine!
Not a blood transfusion?
Since July, we’ve found ourselves in an awkward position concerning our Mr. Patch, a mostly Lab mixed almost evenly with his mama, a Springer; having inherited the terrible hips of both, he now finds himself dragging where he once pranced.
Three times in the past five months we have taken him to see Dr. Pennington, such a stately name for such a compassionate man - to get more powder to treat his nether region now covered by a once-proud tail.
He spends more time outside now, lying down where the grass, dead as it may be, meets the gravel on which he’s rolled gloriously so many times these last love-filled years.
On each of these visits to Dr. P., knowing glances have been exchanged, tender palpations applied, and an unspoken agreement to just keep holding the Devil in his place and allow the required bureaucratic immunizations to remain in abeyance while we keep faithful watch.
On those extended respites in early winter’s faint sun, sometimes he lies so still that I creep out on little cat feet and touch his neck where he loves to be scratched; while I study his nearly motionless chest - it’s just a matter of time now until that stout heart makes that final leap to merge with my own.
But until that day, me and Patch play the timeless game, neither willing to admit the other won the final round.
I hear Vick’s dogs are doing great in their new forever homes. Didn’t the guy who owns the pit bull Wallace adopt one of them?
But wait. I thought they were ALL violent.
More evidence of the nature of many pit bull owners.
Exactly! It's a people problem, not a breed problem. Glad you agree.
You're probably right, but some are more violent than others. Dog fights have winners and losers.

The APBT and AST achieved a passing rate of 83.4- 84.3%.....almost identical to the golden retriever.
The breeds scores better than beagles, bichons, corgis, cocker spaniels, dalmations, ect.
