Our theme this year is "Childhood Favorites".....so we let the kids plan the menu; they picked some of their favorite dishes from when they were little. So it won't be fancy; we're talking meatloaf, macaroni & cheese, green bean casserole, corn, jello salad, stuff like that. Appetizers to include pizza rolls and Nacho Cheese Doritos. We'll end the meal with their daddy's famous triple chocolate cake and mom's traditional English trifle.
Not the healthiest meal, to be sure, but very high on the nostalgia meter.:)
I'll decorate the tree with ornaments belonging to the three of them, including some of their handmade ones from kindergarten etc.; and even the gifts will reflect the theme; a Barbie doll for Em (she collects them), and book of short stories written by a former teacher of Ev's, Star Trek calendar for Jake, etc. I even found a John Deere Barbie doll for Katie (she's country, through & through:) & a Kansas City Chiefs sock for Curt (for some reason they've been his favorite team forever.)
I'm having a ball planning all this. I even ordered some "retro" 50's socks for hubby & me and will fill them with small toys from our era (slinky, gyroscope, Duncan yoyo, etc.)
Sounds great.
Your plans sound so special with plenty of memories made to share later down the road of life.
