Sorry for the vanity, but I am still a bit depressed over last nights results. I am an unlikely poster. I am 25 years old (ive always been an old soul), an immigrant from a communist country, and a "lifelong" republican. Bill Clinton made me a Republican, after seeing how he disgraced the office among other decisions I completely disagreed with at such a young age. I have voted straight GOP all of my voting life.
I still remember years ago sitting and watching a Governor from Texas announce with his wife from a lawn that he was forming an exploratory commitee, and I thought to myself, this man is going to bring honor and dignity to the White House, and he did.
Why did we lose so badly last night?, and why is our economy and this country in shambles after 8 years?, what did we do wrong, did we overreach? and how do we regroup?. Our values and our party have been mostly rejected here and around the world. I know that Republican values, small government, strong military, low taxes and personal responsibility are the way to go, I have experienced the fruits of these values personally as a successful business owner. But the question, how do we regroup and articulate this to the American people?
I agree...but don’t forget its independents who elect presidents in this country, and they vote for whoever they feel will take the country in the right direction.
Right! Still, try to stay away from guns, or tall buildings.
I agree we still have to at least fight. I will not be silent, but I consider this like the United States has terminal cancer and you know how you try and fight that and it gets the best of most of them. But I will at least try. Hey, I voted yesterday in NY even though I knew this state was terminal so I did my part.
It seems that my fellow Americans cannot grasp the concept of less Government intrusion in their lives. To them, the Constitution is an illusion that has to be explained by their Government Masters.
We as a people have become accustomed to blaming all of life's disappointments and hardships on others. The era of personal responsibility has passed, and with it our proud heritage.
Principles be damned when you can get something for nothing, even if it requires the sacrifice of another.
I fear the fabric of our Republic is damaged beyond repair.
Demonrats have been a terminal illness to this country.
Relax Oye.......the pendulum swings both ways:
Eisenhower....................8 years
Kennedy/Johnson...........8 years
Nixon/Ford....................8 years
Carter............................4 years
Reagan/Bush..................12 years
Clinton...........................8 years
Bush..............................8 years
Obama.....................???
You’re gonna see the GOP rise and fall again in your lifetime.
Hey, here in NM we have a full rat contingent for the house and senate. A lot of Ron Paul supporters went for 0bama (at least here). But all is not lost.
To borrow your cancer analogy, the way to fight it is to kill it (in a philosophical way). We can no longer give liberals and rats any quarter. We always have to feel hungry for it and fight for it. We became complacent and it got us to this point.
So in NY, lets get the rural areas back and work on the urban centers. Let gain majorities in the state legislatures, from which we can begin to change the urban landscape.
And they will be in the future as well.
That’s politics.
One can’t win every election. So, you move on, and when you win, and you will, eventually, you can only do your best to cut out the cancer and prevent the metastasis.
See #27, and you can pretty much see the future, in the past.
Well, at least we don’t have to hear “My Friends” anymore.
I really think that he believed that every time he said it. Sadly though, John McCain has made no friends, he has only been a useful idiot for the Democrats masquerading as a Maverick.
Senator McCain has to be the last RINO, period.
I respect the man, but he was not the one WE, or a majority of the American People, were waiting for.
I’ll say it again.
Republicans think people are smart while Democrats know people are stupid.
That alone explains the outcome of this election Comrades.
I have the utmost respect for his Military Service and service to our county. But that is where it ended. I’m not a big believer in constant compromise. I’m looking for people to change minds and start leading people away from this cradle to grave - what’s in it for me mentality, to self reliance and personal responsibility. This recent election was just a shameless display of basically throwing money at the voters. You can’t give everything away, or can you?? Maybe I missed something.
You’re still speaking truth to power. lol You’re absolutely right as well. When Democrats stonewalled on more regulation of Fannie and Freddie, Bush should have used the Bully Pulpit and clearly and concisely let the people know what they did and what it could mean to them. There are dozens of such examples. TC
Ah! There's your mistake. Eight years of Dubya have clearly revealed that those aren't Republican values.
100% Correct - there are so many examples of hammering points home that were missed..Time to regroup and focus on getting better candidates who aren’t afraid to speak conservative principles.
Im just catching up on my news here on FR-what is this about the Republicans throwing Gov. Palin under the bus??
So, let me get this straight, some "unnamed staffers" say this or that and that translates into "the GOP"?
That means that, in the future, "the GOP" won't get your vote?
Political parties are not living beings. They are inanimate organizations just like rental cars are inanimate objects. Like rental cars, the way they behave depends on who is in the driver's seat and that can change in one day.
If you don't like "the GOP", then don't whine that you are going to abandon the GOP car so that you can ride a third party tricycle and become political roadkill. If you don't like the way the "the GOP" car is being driven, then fight to get in the driver's seat.
The way you get in the driver's seat is to get people who think like you elected and the way you get people who think like you elected is for you to educate the majority of voters to believe in the way you think.
Until you get the majority of voters to think the way you think, you can rail against "the GOP" all you want but you might as well be railing at an inanimate tar baby.
The conservatives have not had any one to consistently and coherently explain the conservative principals on the national stage well enough to cut through the main stream media fog.
Bush ran as a conservative, but in many ways did not apply conservative principles. The media began a negative propaganda campaign against him starting the day he declared himself a candidate.
Many people believe that Bush's policies led to the financial meltdown. This was loudly proclaimed by Pelosi and Reid.It should have been refuted immediately. No one ever successfully countered this.
The younger people have never had to live through the 1970’s and the Carter Administration, so they are ignorant of the damage liberal policies can do.
If the Congress follows the course that Pelosi has been talking about and tries to confiscate 401k’s etc. there will be a big case of buyers remorse. I believe we can then make headway regaining control of congress.
Republicans bribe people with their own money. - (Tax Cuts)
Democrats bribe people with somebody else's money. -(Socialism disguised as Tax Cuts)
When you rob Peter to pay Paul, you'll always get Paul's vote.
See my tagline.
