Although Rush Limbaugh doesn't actually work from a bunker, he does have a bunker mentality. His studio is on the third floor of a (purposefully) anonymous building 100 yards off the white sands of Palm Beach, Florida, and about a mile from his gated mansion (the one next to Chuck Norris's). Along with the Gulfstream jet (cost: $54 million), fleet of sports cars and eight-year contract, worth $400 million, this mansion is his reward for being the most listened-to talk-radio host in America, a title he has held for 20 years.
But it is also his compensation. Professional Right-wing controversialists do tend to upset people, and Limbaugh has had his share of death threats. He has also had his quota of criticism from the media, or the liberal media, as he tends to call it. He hates interviews and has rarely given any, though he does have a soft spot for this newspaper, because it was once owned by his sometime friend and neighbour Conrad Black (currently serving a 6½-year jail sentence for fraud; Limbaugh wrote a letter to the judge attesting to Lord Black's good character).

e-mail rush and tell him that you want to meet him!
Yo, Nigel. Get it right. He tends to call it the Drive-by Media.
Hope he stays #1 for another 20 years and his next contract is $800,000,000 ...
Meet Rush once through an Aunt that went to school with him. His name growing up was Rusty. When asked by people who would you invite to your last supper Rush would be on my list.
Then I woke up
I’m sure it was Rush who I met in KC many years ago. Big guy, family full of lawyers, who worked for the Royals.
I think my ex-neighbor might’ve fired him from one of his radio gigs.
Great article...thanks for posting! Love the ending. ;)
I think she’s a tall, blond liberal. Don’t remember her name, though. He must be a masochist.
He made a nice 20 foot sidehill putt on the 4th hole. As he was walking off the green I said, "Nice putt, Rush." He said, "Thank youuuu."
Wow. That was a nice article. Thanks for posting.
Okay, okay. So if I would've read a little further before getting my undies in a bundle I would've seen that he did get it right.
I remember the first time I heard him, he was on TV. I was coming in from a late job and my brother screams to me at the door, "GET IN HERE AND LISTEN TO THIS GUY". We were both gobsmacked because he talked just like our grandparents, aunts and uncles talked. We always felt so weird being a conservative family. LOL HE BELIEVED WHAT WE DID!!!! Yes! We never heard anything like it before. It was awesome. It was like discovering a whole new planet or a vaccine for a painful illness. LOL
I've been listening for 20 years and now my kids listen to him every afternoon. We have to hurry and finish school in the morning because he comes on at 12:00. We plan our homeschool day around his show. LOL My kids tenderly call him "Uncle Rush". He is well loved by my children.
I love it when he says something cool and my kids scream with joy or delight. It's just a special, happy moment with my kids to see them "getting it" and watching their minds be provoked and challenged by THE great conservative mind.
So anyway, I wish my kids could meet him. He seems so private though, I would be embarrassed to bother him with a request.
Mine too. He, Ronald Reagan and C.S. Lewis. :)
They are from my home town of Kerrville. I meant to read their Daily Times today to see if it made the papers. It’s a small town of about 25,000 (or it used to be when I was there).
Sure would like to see a list of his “fleet of sports cars.”
BUMP
Thank you for sharing that, I enjoy hearing others’ experiences. I remember his show from when I was a kid; my grandparents and parents watched it all the time. When I first got married, my husband was not happy that I listened to Rush. He was skeptical and had no interest. Four years later, my husband is a registered Repub and listens to talk radio all the time, haha!
I would not want to bother him either; I’m sure he gets enough nutjob emails and calls. But he’d be a fascinating person to have dinner with!
