You always know how important football is in a given state when you watch FSN Southwest and you see an entire hour is devoted to Texas HS Football. Not that I disagree with it, but still...
BTW, OkSU just scored. 28-21 UT over OkSU. 3:43 remaining in the 3rd.
Not even a contest. It’s the Big 12, and everyone else.
Texas is the only state besides Alabama where HS football is really big stuff.
It is quite nice, in reality. Went to San Antonio to see a friend's kid get married recently, and sure enough, for a social outing we went to a HS football game. There were probably 4-5,000 people there.
It reminded me of my hometown where, on Friday night, just about everybody turned out to watch the Tigers vs the Rebels (or Blue Devils). First place I ever smoked a cigarette (under the bleachers, of course!!), or held a girl's hand. It was a genuine community event, local athletes with talent were causes for pride in the city, and there was more...., "togetherness."
I think we would be better off if there was more of that, but I don't quite know how we could bring it about.
I loved the movie a couple of years back "Friday Night Lights." My wife did not understand the big deal, but it really was a big deal back then.
