Good Bye, Mr. Bill, my feline friend.

Posted on 10/21/2008 12:08:50 PM PDT by Jay Thomas

Mr. Bill was given to me by my fiance about 20 years ago. He's a black/grey tiger shorthair with a healthy weight of 12 pounds.

The past week was very bad for him and so I will take him to the vet this evening and say good-bye.

He was the first cat my wife and I shared together and he's been with us during out whole marriage. He lived a long and healthy life until the past month where things steadily went downhill, accelerating rapidly the past week.

He was named after the SNL character of old. Seemed I was always saying "Oh no, Mr. Bill!!!"

My heart aches for your loss...

My Kat is nearing her time after 18 years as Queen of the roost. Her kidneys are shot and there's nothing to do but wait until it must be done. I read through this whole thread and haven't cried this much in I don't know how long. I'm going to be a complete basket case when it's her turn to cross the bridge...

If you can bring yourself to do it, be with him when he goes.

Sorry to hear that bro. Prayers go up to you.

I had to put my cat Sunny down back in February. She was a 7 year old orange Tabby. I had her since she was a kitten. She real bad kidney stones in her kidneys and her urethra. I tried everything possible short of a kidney transplant. She had to have fluids everyday on top of other meds. She fought it for 8 months and couldn't deal with the pain anymore.

That cat was very attached to me. She had to be right next to me no matter where I was. It's funny because when I started to date a new woman, Sunny would always get literally would jump up and get between us and take her paws to try to push the woman away.

We just went thru the same thing - same cat great buddy. Hardest thing putting him down but he was on his way out and we didn’t want to let him suffer.

When he was younger he used to run rite up my back and sit on my shoulder like the king of the mountain.

We brought him home and planted him in his old hunting grounds.

Oh! The stories. I’m sure you have just as many.

Looking for another.

I feel your pain. I really do. The hardest thing I’ve ever had to do was put down my beloved cat of 13 years 4 years ago. But 2 years later I adopted two flea-infested, malnourished litter-mate sister kittens. And they are thriving, healthy and very happy living with me. It hurts like hell now, but life is still good, thanks in part to my “crazy kids.”

We had a cat for eighteen years. He loved people! When he went he took a large piece of each of us with him. He was a stray my husband found on the road during a snow storm. When my husband pulled over, he ran to our van, hopped in, came home with my husband and gave us l8 years of fun and love. He will always be rememberd with love. So we understand your loss.

Awww....
Sorry about your Boo. =(
He must have had a great life with you, and you must have loved him very much to let him go.
Take care.

Your friend will be waiting for you on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. I'll tell my Squeakers to help him feel at home and to introduce Mr. Bill to the whole gang!

Our house, humans and felines, send condolences your way

I am so very sorry. I lost my 13 yr. Cocker Spaniel, Sammy on June 28. I am still having a hard time, I miss him so. They give us so much love and become almost like our own children.

There is a very nice website for those who grieve for their pets. It is www.petloss.com

Alot of very nice people there.

There are so many loving Cats and Dogs out there who desperately need a home.

Please open your home to one or more of these needy, loving, wonderful creatures.

If you can’t, please donate to your local animal shelter.

It breaks my heart seeing these wonderful pets who love unconditionally without a home.

The Cat I adopted 2 years ago spent 3 months in a tiny cage at the animal shelter, and another several months in a tiny cage at the rescue shelter.

She’s an affectionate Cat and is always happy to see me when I come home from work and curls up on my lap and sleeps next to me at night.

She’s quite the conversationalist as well.

I’m convinced that we will be reunited with our pets on the other side.

Thanks for writing such a touching tribute. I understand completely. I lost my Baron (11-year-old Doberman)several months ago, and I still get teary eyed thinking about it. Sometimes my legs actually buckle. If a man and his dog could ever read each others minds, we did. Still seems hard to believe that he’s gone. And I pray daily that God will bless Baron’s soul to His heart. May seem silly to some; to me, it makes perfect sense. Guess I’m a softie.

The deed is done and I was with him during his last moments. A hard thing to do, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’ve talked before about my wife’s cat, Kits. She accompanied us on the first 4 years of our marriage after she’d already been a part of her life for a number of years.

When she got sick, and it was her time to go, I remember giving her a last stroke as my wife headed out the door to the vet’s, and how I went in and had to tell my 3-year old that Kits wasn’t going to be here anymore. I kissed him goodnight, tucked in his little sister, and I then went out to the living room and bawled like a baby for a solid hour.

When my wife came back...alone...it was a very somber evening. As I read about you and your dear friend, the old memory came back in potent force.

(and to whoever it was who posted that lovely painting of the Rainbow Bridge, darn you all to heck! I sobbed openly when I saw that...)

may the God of all comfort lay His hand on you tonight and bring you peace in your heart.

In the meantime, I’m sure Kits is welcoming his new friend on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.

Mr. Bill was a very lucky cat. Few pet owners have the gumption to stand by at the end. I truly admire what you did and I am sure that you made the transition easier for him.

I’m very sorry that you had to say goodbye. But how great that Mr. Bill owned you. I’m sure he had a wonderful life. May you find another dear cat buddy one day. They’re great fun and amazing friends. Take care.

In the process right now.

Tomorrow night a little black lab mix will get to sleep in a house instead of a kennel.
