I just voted early!
vanity

Posted on 10/20/2008 12:06:31 PM PDT by tamu95_mom

This is my first post ever, so forgive me if it is posted incorrectly.

I live in Austin, TX and today is the first day of early voting. I just voted and was really disheartened to see lots of Obama bumper stickers in the parking lot, and none for McCain. I am really worried that there will be a huge turnout for Obama, and I am praying for our country that the McCain side will be mobilized enough to come out and vote. I know we have the numbers to win the election, I just hope that people are motivated enough to vote!

Also, when I was in line, I saw someone with an Obama t-shirt on. I pulled aside a pollworker and verified that this is not allowed. She went and talked with the head person in charge and they had him turn the t-shirt inside out. The problem was that you could see the Obama logo quite plainly through the white t-shirt, so turning it inside out did nothing. Not a super a big deal, but it shows the ignorance of the Obama voter, and the inability of the polling place to control this type of "campaigning."

“I see landslide and with all the cheating going on we don’t have a chance!”

Starting to sound like a troll or someone who needs to look at polling history.

Gore and Kerry were ahead in the polls as well.

Don’t fall for it Republicans!

Don’t fall victim to their propaganda!

They are working feverishly to demoralize you.

It ain’t over ‘til it’s over!

Ignore the polls — vote no matter what the communist-like media has to say.

Go and Vote! No Matter What!

Maybe the Obamination campaign is deliberately parking cars with his bumper stickers near the polling place to either influence the vote or dishearten the McCain voter. It would be interesting to know whether the same cars are parked there on a regular basis. No polling judge or poll worker should have political bumper stickers on their vehicles.

Troll ME?

I will vote today!!!

But... what I am saying is McCain will take Texas, but in Texas, and in a very conservative part of Texas, I see tons of Obama yard signs. This election could turn and I pray to God it does, but being realistic, with the cheating, the help of Hollywood, all media outlets, the economy, the hype, we have slim chance of taking this one.

Yes, Austin is very liberal, but the part of Austin I am in typically votes more conservatively. I guess it’s hard to tell at early voting places because people are voting closer to where they work than where they live.

Well it is a strange state but still pretty red. Northern florida has panhandle big Repub. N Central has blue dog Dems which will go McCain. Tampa south to Naples is Repub. Dade is 50/50 Hispanics mainly McCain with 50% African American, some Jewish, some urban trendies.

Broward County is younger Jewish out west, middle more AA, east more McCain. The Cuban Americans will be wary of any voter fraud in Dade. They smacked down Gore in 2000 when they tried to do a recount in private.

Broward is the most lib county in FL but we did not get killed in 2004. Maybe 60% Kerry/ 40% Bush. Churches were very active for Bush. we have a Repub sheriff cause the Dem went to jail. Voter fraud should not be a huge problem I hope. FL runs pretty decent elections with photo ID.

Palm Beach County is a lot of older and not so old Jewish voters, plus Repubs and some AA. Usually 60 Dem 40 Repub.

Wexler was working the old Jewish folks in the condos but half boo’ed him at meetings over his support for Obama. McCain will get more than Kerry but these old people grew up on FDR milk. Some of them would vote for Obama if his veep were Yasser Arafat.

North of Palm Beach on east coast is pretty Repub. I-4 corridor in the center from Tampa to Orlando to Daytona Beach is the swing section for the state. Sarah pulled 70,000 at the villages near Orlando. Good crowd in Clearwater near Tampa too.

We have more new “immigrants” including Haitians and others who are more Dem which may make the state purple in the future.

Bush won +5 in 2004 and RINO Repub Charlie Crist won governor by +7 in 2006 which was a bad year for Repubs.

My feeling is McCain should get more Jewish voters and I doubt there is a lot of enthusiasm for Obama among Jewish voters. I think Hillary could have carried Florida - maybe.

The economy in FL is not great but not that bad. Construction is hurting but much of that was illegal workers.

I do worry about that. However, I have my young kids with me and I can’t wait in line for hours with them on election day.

“...but being realistic, with the cheating, the help of Hollywood, all media outlets, the economy, the hype, we have slim chance of taking this one.”

The Dems don’t seem to think so or they wouldn’t be doing what they are doing with ads and the posturing, etc.

You are entitled to your disheartened state of mind but I think you will be surprised on November 5th.

You are drinking the Kool-Aid they left is working so hard to push on you.

Are Dems the only ones who cheat? I don’t think so.

The rest is just hype and enough Americans see through it.

When Republicans are angry or afraid they vote.

They will be there, don’t you worry.

Well I appreciate your volunteering to do that, as in my area the dems are pretty mean to sr citizens, and try to help them too much, and intimidate others.

I also voted today, and came away with a different take on it.

As I arrived in the polling place, the first thing I noticed was a sign that said to have ID ready - either voters registration card or drivers license. The Tennessee statute requiring that was listed below.

The poll workers thoroughly checked everyone's ID, verified address, and printed a form (for those not turned away). This form required me to affirm that I have not moved, my address is correct, and that I know that I cannot vote again on election day.

The place was crowded, about 95% white, mostly older folks, and I saw no bumper stickers, shirts, etc for either candidate. The one exception was my Honda with 2 McCain stickers. I came away feeling good about the whole thing.

I’m confident all of these young GOP’s will show up... not so confident about the college Obama supporters who are so confident that Obama will win in a landslide that they probably won’t bother spending the money on gas to get to the polls.

Best news I have heard all day. Thank you !

If I catch anyone being mean to a senior citizen of ANY political persuasion they will certainly face my wrath.

I will not stand by for that sort of thing, no way.

Where do you live that people can hang around the polls on Election Day? Or did you arrange this through your precinct, like poll watchers?

I do believe that there could be problems especially if it looks like Obama may lose, as Odinga (Obama’s cousin in Kenya” did not take loss very well.

Welcome to FR. Excellent report! Don’t worry, Texas will go for McCain/Palin, have no doubts. I see a lot of McCain/Palin signs here in Connecticut, but unfortunately I’m sure CT will go for Zerobama. No matter, CT only has 7 electoral votes... TX has 34. :o)
