COWBOYS LIKE JOHN WAYNE

When I was just a tow-head kid
not knowin’ how things stood,
I got a lot of lessons boys
in tellin’ bad from good.

The teachers tried and pastor too
and dad would oft explain,
but none could reach me half as well
as cowboys like John Wayne.

They stood for truth and justice clear,
no cloudin’ up with gray.
twas black or white, the wrong or right
in ever’thing they’d say.

Their honesty and decency
their way of speakin’ plain
are only part of what I owe
to cowboys like John Wayne.

I grew to love this country son,
old Glory’s stars and stripes,
to stand up proud for what we were
and never quit a fight.

As I look at the world today
I wonder what became
of those great values once we learned
from cowboys like John Wayne.

It seems like we’re the villians now
though we would right the wrong.
There’s lots of folks ignore the truth
and blindly go along.

They call it lib’ral thinkin’ now,
no God, no prayer, no shame.
no right to life, no loyalty,
no cowboys like John Wayne.

Our nation runs a risk today
of bein’ what we’re not:
a country without moral will
that revels in such rot.

Dear Lord I pray we find ourselves
before we go insane.
and may we ride as they once rode
those cowboys like John Wayne.

Oh my, love that music, love cowboys, love John Wayne, and what a beautiful poem....thanks a lot. I’ll be away a while, for “hair today - gone tomorrow”...oh, how weak that is~~LOL!

I was so excited to see this poem because I'd had the music saved for a while and also the five "riding into the sunset" cowboys, but needed a poem to go with it. I love John Wayne, so it all came together with that poem!

Also pretty crazy about this cowboy, and wish the media wasn't so hard on him.

Striped Kitten Haiku





Little striped Kitten
may think she's all grown up, but
she has far to go

Little striped Kitten
knows 'Why?" things must be done.
Not so strong on "How?"

Little striped Kitten
had deep blue eyes only days
ago. Things change

Little striped Kitten
sees so many things that are
bigger than she is

Little striped Kitten
see their tops. Then forms plans to
get from here to there

The Direct Approach
does not usually work.
Mother has said so

Little striped Kitten
has to learn 'Finesse' that will
help achieve great things

'Finesse' is one of
Mother's favorite subjects.
No one is better!

Little striped Kitten
will learn much while having so
many adventures

Little striped Kitten
will discover 'Gravity'
and its mysteries

'Gravity' is what
makes so many things fall when
they aren't supposed to

Little striped Kitten
will learn to look 'innocent'
when these things happen

Mother is raising
a well rounded daughter, who
will steal many hearts
