Thousands and thousands of people showed up, and the enthusiasm and energy was a sight to see!
McCain sounded reinvigorated and Palin was magnificent.
Special Guest, Fred Thomspon gave a great speech as well, and introduced the Presidential and Vice Presidential nominees. The folks were charged up and Van Dyke Park (Fairfax City) was absolutely ROCKIN'!!!
I'll be putting pics up on my blog shortly. http://mccainpalinvictory08.blogspot.com/
** Like I've said before, this election shouldn't even be close!!!
did Sarah address the pig/fish comments?
we need pics!
I know someone who was there and estimated it at 30,000. Does that seem about right?
Rush said the Fairfax County school board tried to stop this rally from happening by claiming it was improper use of the school.
Anybody in Tidewater got any inside info on the scheduled appearance for Sarah Palin on Thursday 9-18? All they’ve said is that she’ll be in VA Beach as far as I know.
Best political event I have ever been to. My daughter loved it. We managed to get about 10 standing rows back from the front, and had a great time.
We both love Fred Thompson, so that was a real thrill watching him walk down the hill and then onto the stage (well, we couldn’t quite seem him walk on the stage since there were too many signs in the air.
There were tons of people. The line to get in just kept going, I had to walk the whole thing to get to the end. The security folks were great and really moved us through.
Of course, I was in the line with the guy who brought the knife, and then wanted to argue that he should be allowed to take it with him. A security guy finally looked over and said “do you really have a problem with our no-weapons policy?”
Cubicle bound...thank you for the info...hope and pray we can keep up this momentum until Nov. 5th! when McCain/Palin are elected into the White House by the PEOPLE of this country.
I drove by van dyke at 6:30am, place was hoppin’!!!
I live over by Woodson off 236.
Great news, but I wish I saw some/any/more signs saying “BUILD THE FENCE!” as a reminder to McCain.
I just got home from the rally. There are several MALLS on the route and they caused more delay than the 2 hours it took to get to the site this morning.
Yes, it was an electric crowd. Everyone seemed very positive and supportive. I was aware of the number of Mothers and daughters in the crowd. There were a number of students missing classes today!
There was music, opening speeches and finally introductions by Fred. He was very upbeat and inspiring. Cindy McCain was given lots of credit for her acts of kindness and children with special needs were a mentioned several times. Fred mentioned what great women they would be in Washington and then introduced SARAH.
The crowd seemed to be “new” to politics and rallies. The chants of Sarah and USA were loud and came often. I kept waiting for “Country First” since it was a huge backdrop sign! Each of the speakers referred to Country First and the crowd seemed to only chant USA. (Olympic influence?)
It was overcast early and that helped to keep the temperature pleasant. Later the sun was bright and hot. The crowd continued to grow until it seemed to fill the entire “bowl” of the park. People were still arriving as the crowd began to leave to the very loud beat of “Eye of the Tiger”.
I did not want to fight the traffic so spent about a half hour picking up the dropped signs and papers on the ground. THERE WERE NO AMERICAN FLAGS IN THE TRASH.
Yes, the speeches covered the same facts as the convention, but the crowd was happy and may not have all heard them before. Those of us who follow all the speeches are ready for some new lines, soon.
Press coverage was huge and international. I was interviewed by a French team of reporters. I am not sure if they liked my comments or preferred to know why I had so many patriotic buttons and red, white and blue clothes.
It was a great day and I’m sorry if you missed it! I tried, but did not connect with other Freepers who attended.
