Sorry for taking a while to respond, but no, Sarah didn’t address the “PIG” comment...

A former Hillary supporter and feminist did though, and she hit obama pretty hard, at the Rally. I have no clue what her name is, but she was VERY outspoken...

I’d say at LEAST 20,000 people there and possibly much more. Being a native NYK’er, getting out of that park, reminded me of trying to leave Giants’ Stadium!!

Definitely a great time today, at the RALLY!!! :O)

Yep, Gilmore was there, and Congressman Tom Davis did great job of hosting most of the event!

Great news, but I wish I saw some/any/more signs saying “BUILD THE FENCE!” as a reminder to McCain.

“FDT and Palin. That’s an awesome combo.”

You said a mouthful. That was my dream ticket during the winter. Well, 1 outa 2 ain’t bad.

Palin’s addition to the ticket, and Fred’s genuine endorsement of Mac during the convention, have me preparing to do something I swore I’d never do: pulling the lever enthusiastically for McCain.

I a way, I am lucky. I don't have to pull that lever for McCain. at present, I live in a place where such a vote would be meaningless. although with Sarah and Fred kickin’ a$$, that might change. I'll face that if it happens. And May actually pull that lever.

I just got home from the rally. There are several MALLS on the route and they caused more delay than the 2 hours it took to get to the site this morning.

Yes, it was an electric crowd. Everyone seemed very positive and supportive. I was aware of the number of Mothers and daughters in the crowd. There were a number of students missing classes today!

There was music, opening speeches and finally introductions by Fred. He was very upbeat and inspiring. Cindy McCain was given lots of credit for her acts of kindness and children with special needs were a mentioned several times. Fred mentioned what great women they would be in Washington and then introduced SARAH.

The crowd seemed to be “new” to politics and rallies. The chants of Sarah and USA were loud and came often. I kept waiting for “Country First” since it was a huge backdrop sign! Each of the speakers referred to Country First and the crowd seemed to only chant USA. (Olympic influence?)

It was overcast early and that helped to keep the temperature pleasant. Later the sun was bright and hot. The crowd continued to grow until it seemed to fill the entire “bowl” of the park. People were still arriving as the crowd began to leave to the very loud beat of “Eye of the Tiger”.

I did not want to fight the traffic so spent about a half hour picking up the dropped signs and papers on the ground. THERE WERE NO AMERICAN FLAGS IN THE TRASH.

Yes, the speeches covered the same facts as the convention, but the crowd was happy and may not have all heard them before. Those of us who follow all the speeches are ready for some new lines, soon.

Press coverage was huge and international. I was interviewed by a French team of reporters. I am not sure if they liked my comments or preferred to know why I had so many patriotic buttons and red, white and blue clothes.

It was a great day and I’m sorry if you missed it! I tried, but did not connect with other Freepers who attended.

I believe she was introduced as Loretta Long.

Angelwood and I were able to make it into the inner circle area. We could have stood about 60 feet from the podium but opted to lean against the back railing to the right side of the podium. Right next to the speaker stand.

RonGKirby was on the hill behind us and managed to spot us in the crowd. So we met up with him afterward. He gave us a ride back to our cars.

The speaker stand on the right side was pointed in toward the inner circle area. No one on the hill behind us could hear anything the speakers were saying. They complained loudly several times that they could not hear.

Angelwood and I got to the venue taking the shuttle from Fair City Mall. Angelwood brought a bag full of buttons and small flags. While we were handing out all this stuff to the other patrons a campaign volunteer came around telling everyone to leave their signs, buttons, and flags in the car because it was going to slow security down at the entrance gate. Half the the people we handed stuff out to took the stuff back to their cars.

Still, a few people were able to get into the park with their homemade signs.

I’ll add my take.

McCain and Palin’s speeches were typical stump speeches, most of which I had heard before - but it did not dampen the enthusiam. The crowd was pumped and the women were over the top excited - myself included.

When McCain and Palin were leaving the park in the Straight Talk Express and when the traffic stopped them they got out of the bus and shook handed, people were running and going crazy! I can imagine it was a Secret Service Nightmare. I didn’t get up there in time to see them, but some people I met got some great pictures of Sarah, TOdd and McCain.

The logistics of the event were the best they could be given the circustances surrounding the FFX HS venue fiasco. They had less than 48 hours to get 23,000 people to and from an outdoor venue in the middle of a congested, traffic challenged town. For anyone that knows the City of Fairfax, it is hard to navigate in a car on a good day. The buses taking people back to the shopping center were late and clogged in traffic so I decided to walk, it was about 2 miles and was a nice day. There were plenty of people walking and everyone was holding their signs up and getting honks from traffic. No one was complaining about the walk - they were still on a high from the event.

I navigated the day alone and talked to many people - it was refreshing and there is a real excitement out there.

I see you're still making and handing out buttons--I have my collection of "Angelwood buttons" from the old days.

When these two get into office, maybe there will be some Freeper events planned in DC again--this time to back the president, not get rid of him--LOL! How fun that could be!

Never thought I could vote McCain without gagging. Sarah has made the difference and even McCain seems a lot more energized.

Now, let her give her kind of speech.
