Secret Weapon
Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 5:16 PM It's somewhat amusing to think that the Obama campaign might really believe that Hillary Clinton is going to help Barack win Pennsylvania, for two reasons. First, since when was Hillary Clinton really the blue collar male voter's candidate of choice? Could it be that they voted less for her than against her arugula-loving elitist primary opponent? Second, if the Obama campaign really thinks Hillary is committed to seeing their man win -- well, let's just hope that they don't take that level of naivete into negotiations with Putin.
What may be being overlooked a bit in all the Obama camps calculations is Todd Palin's appeal to blue-collar men. I can see the voters both campaigns are after resonating more to a snow-mobiling union "regular guy" than to a presidential candidate who sees them as "bitter" -- or his running mate, whose working class roots have been somewhat softened around the edges by years of Senate bloviating.
The entire Palin family is simply more genuine, more real, and more easily identified with than either Ding Dong or Plugs.
From Sarah to Todd to Bristol (yes, everybody knows a family who has dealt with an unexpected teen pregnancy or other difficulties) to the son who is leaving in a few days for Iraq to Piper and her sisterly spit-comb to little Trig himself.
There’s a line in the movie “Amadeus” where Mozart is pleading with the royal to allow his opera be shown and asks isn’t everybody tired with (pp)”those who speak from lofty perches and s*it marble”.
That’s what the democrat ticket evokes in middle America. IMO.
Good evening everybody, mil had 82nd birthday today and we had neighbors in for cake and some live music from yours truly and Mr. Prairie.
Not only is Todd Palin appealing to blue collar workers, but to women who like men who can step in and take over when Mom is busy doing the people’s work. They say that Sarah doesn’t suffer fools well....I don’t think Todd does either. I’ve read somewhere, here on FR, that Todd has taken a leave of absence from BP to help his wife during the campaign and if “they” win, he’ll be a stay at home Dad until her duties for the American public are complete.
