The 2008 peak of hurricane season is ramping up with Gustav and Hanna. The two storms pose threats to the U.S. At least 22 deaths in Hispanola are attributed to Gustav to date, and a Hurricane Warning is in effect for Jamaica. Tropical Storm Hanna has formed in the Atlantic.

Nothing is going to stop this thing or slow it down before it meets land. I dread turning on the TV Monday afternoon.
Good idea to get as much rest as possible tonight. Take care.
There are other solutions beyond “hit NO” and “hit Houston.”
That's why the many paid for the few to live in a hole?
I will keep you in my prayers. Please try to get some rest now as you probably won’t over the next couple of days.
take care
VirginiaMom
Prayers up for those that decide to ride it out.
If you don’t like NO, stop using petrochemicals.
“There are other solutions beyond hit NO and hit Houston.”
yea, like “hit Mexico”
I know I am a horrible person for saying that...but I am not ashamed...
The South FL landscape of trees, groves was decimated
in the Homestead area.
I would stand at an intersection I’d known for
25 years, and be so disoriented by the changed
look, it would take me 5 mins. to figure out where
I was.
That was one of the saddest, most depressing sights ..
the hundreds and hundreds of stripped, mangled, sliced
off ugly trees of what once was pastoral, tall and green
.. especially way out west in the country/Redlands.
That kind of damage takes 10-15 years to heal, if it’s
not completely destroyed .. as in the West Coast
mangroves.
Of all the bad spots to be doing business during Gustov, one would be hard pressed to find a worser one; althought there may be several others vying for equal distinction of just plain bad, e.g., Buras, Port Sulphur, Pointe la Hache, anybody on the Chandalier Islands, et ali. That whole area possibly could be subject to wind surge+swell+wave action totalling 40'. Who knows? If so, however, that only to the lament of everybody ELSE around them; by extension the surrounding areas would be innundated with correspondingly higher storm surge than forecast.
Didn’t say anything like that, but you are free to stop using them from Texas.
Contraflow starts at 4 AM
Alright you 2, play nice...
There are some scary model depictions still coming in with a sub 910mb storm hitting LA.

OMG .. that is terrifying.
Pretty cruddy way to spend Labor Day.
It’s not the first major hurricane to wreak havoc on Labor Day either.

They said a small shift of track to the East, just 23 miles, and it will be a lot worse.
Actually, maybe if the illegals get tired of getting pounded by hurricanes in that area, they may move back?
The tides in the Gulf seem to run on a different cycle than the Atlantic ones.
How is the new moon going to affect the Gulf during this hurricane?
“Actually, maybe if the illegals get tired of getting pounded by hurricanes in that area, they may move back”
Don’t say that, you gonna get me started praying for it to come here...sheeeesh...
