He said more or less that in the early part of his comments. He said, essentially, “if the wind’s still blowing, we’re not coming to get you”.

Sounds good to me. They have to have curfews and threaten people that are wandering around, because they can’t very well mandate that everyone leave, exposing their property to the looters that stay. I have to admit I am surprised that the Superbowl is not available as a shelter this time.

Well, even so the eye most likely is goig to make landfall W of NO (I'm guessing between Terrebone Bay to Lake Charles) NO will still sustained straight line winds (optimisticly <65Kts) from due E for several hours prior to landfall. As winds shift to the SE and S, they'll diminish in intensity.

However, check out my previous graphic at post #938.

Those waves will hit NO, Biloxi, Mobile, Panama City AFTER landfall. All those waves are on the NE to SE quad's of the storm. Notice the storm rotation implied by the wind barbs. Those waves are forecast maximum AFTER landfall well to the W of NO. Wind will NOT be NO's greatest enemy. The waves and 6-10" of total rainfall WILL.

Wave fields of 3-5' with periods of 8-9 seconds without doubt. How high do you think the swells are according to forecast wave heights?

I'm just going to speculate what the storm surge could conceivably be concieved of: a 10 mile wide wind surge of about 10', i.e., +10' surge within the first two miles and -10' decrease from the peak in the last 8 miles. On top of that, some 5' - 10' swells with periods of about 20 to 30 seconds and on top of all THAT, waves of 3' to 5' every 8-9 sec.

I believe 190 is a surface highway, while 12 is a limited access freeway.

They want the causeway traffic out of New Orleans to proceed unimpeded onto the freeway (I12), while also avoiding a backup of the minor traffic coming westward to that point.

IMO, New Orleans should be relocated, as was discussed after Katrina. Either that, or Louisiana should establish a multi-billion dollar tax fund for the required periodic rescuing and rebuilding. Let them decide.

The storm surge from Katrina put 15+ feet of river mud ON TOP of Venice, LA.

Bear in mind that Katrina hit E of NOLA.
