The 2008 peak of hurricane season is ramping up with Gustav and Hanna. The two storms pose threats to the U.S. At least 22 deaths in Hispanola are attributed to Gustav to date, and a Hurricane Warning is in effect for Jamaica. Tropical Storm Hanna has formed in the Atlantic.

What is that showing? It almost looks like we have a storm on top of us now?
Ivor Van Heerden, Dep.Dir. LSU Hurricane Center, warns of overtopping and breaching of levees all along the west bank.
I’m trying to undersell this. Based on the current storm, the models show catastrophic levee failure on a broad front on the west bank and great problems for no-grass levees on the east bank.
Wave fields of 3-5 feet every 8-9 seconds.
I’m paraphrasing as best I can.
He’s talking about the angel coming forth and breaking the seal(s).
If Gustav moves slightly east, it gets significantly worse for the east bank.
Contraflow will begin 4 a.m. Sunday.
I haven’t watched FOX on this in several hours, and won’t.
Was “Bob” talking to Joe Bastardi?
Someone needs to show the local weather guy the models

Janice Dean is on with (oh not, not him) Geraldo- showed the press conf with Nagin. He was behaving like an adult.
Sound like this storm surge is going to be a nightmare.
Q: Are there any parts of NO at risk of being under water for a long period of time?
Dr. Van Heerden: Any parts of the bowl...
I only tuned in briefly. He was drawing a sad face on his weather map and hoping the storm would go in another direction. Then telling people not to evacuate yet. He and the news anchors were very amused with themselves. I’m back wwltv now.

It looks like it might be bad around here Tuesday...but we will be on the clean side. We were on the dirty side of Rita about 10 miles from the eye. We left...had a tree on the house.
We had 5 huge pines uprooted and they all had azeleas planted around them...it took months to get a stump grinder and I came very close to having azeleas blooming in the air.
Pretty chilling interview they’re having with Dr. Van Heerden. Very interesting.

Perhaps if there is justice someone will pistolwhip him in the parking lot.
The fellow from the NHC just told Geraldo this was the worst storm Cuba has had in over 50 years.
I’m going to pray for a westward bend for Gustav.
Dr. Van Heerden is scaring the poop out of me, and I live at 1800 feet....in Penna.
Whorealdo?
Good grief.
From what I've heard, with the Gulf waters as warm as they are, the only hope for NOLA would be a high pressure forming to the north, to kick the storm further westward -- sorry Texas -- or high southernly winds to decapitate it.
Woops, didn’t mean to alarm you.
That’s next Friday (check the valid date at the top of the image). The first date is the time of the model run, Tau is how many hours out the forecast is.
I’m so grateful that my son and his girlfriend got out of New Orleans this morning. Praise God!

Jindal should order contraflow be bumped up to 1am.
You’re missing Jerry Rivers.
