Well, that's where I'm *expected* to be billeted. I've earned a name for myself (complete with alliterative moniker) in this industry, so the company is not unhappy to have me be seen in the center of things.
It's their money so it's their call. Though the fancy places are mostly wasted on me. All I really require is clean and working and preferably not too beat-up. Usually I'm hardly in the room except to rest or sleep anyway.
Try negotiating a lower rate for your lodging based on the amenities you’ll actually be using.
I did that once in North St. Paul, MN and got my rate lowered by more than 30%. I went to the front desk, spoke with the Manager, and explained that the nature of our visit would not allow us to avail ourselves of the swimming pool, or the spa, or the gym, or anything else aside from just what was in our room, and could he give us a rate more in line with what services we were actually using.
It worked.
