I’m happy that you all have a set of keys. LOL

Sweet dreams.

Graphic by MamaBear

The Sentry

It climbs up from the rocky shore,
A fist made out of stone.
Defiant against Nature’s wrath,
To claim it for its own.

Forlorn against the elements,
And lonely on the line,
It brings an element of hope,
And helps to make it shine.

This is the place of battle,
The stone against the sea.
Unyielding stubbornness
Thus meets eternal enmity.

Unending anger storms onto,
A calm, determined place,
And wails until its furor wanes,
No tears found on this face.

It is a sign of lasting love.
The mason and his crew,
Have crafted hardened heartstones,
As gifts to an unknown you.

You look out from the tossing decks,
And know just where you stand.
The light gives friendly stay-aways,
This is no place to land.

Thus even though it stands alone,
This beacon does not call,
But tells the others “Danger here!”
A lonely friend to all.

On cloudless, sunny days it seems,
That much more lonely still,
If works can turn the coming tide,
The gallant lighthouse will.

The sentry does not know about,
The worth his work has done,
But in the dark despair of night,
His soul shines like a sun.

Does MamaBear choose the graphic to fit NicknamedBob’s poem or does NicknamedBob write the poem to fit MamaBear’s graphic? Which ever way they do conspire to complement the theme, and produce works that do inspire, they are an awesome team.

Temperature is gonna be a lot lower today and even lower tomorrow. Heard a flock of Canadian geese flying over this morning. That always reminds me of the loons in “On Golden Pond”.

Question: Has anybody here had any experience with laminate flooring in a kitchen?

"Does MamaBear choose the graphic to fit NicknamedBob’s poem or does NicknamedBob write the poem to fit MamaBear’s graphic?"

It has worked both ways; on today's Opening Graphic, MamaBear made the graphic first.

These older graphics are not as large and as fancy as the newer ones are, but there are times when they match the Holidays and I drag them out of mothballs.

NnB has written poems for both MamaBear and Billie Graphics. He has been busy recently and has not had much time to contribute new poems. :(

Good morning, OESY. Hope you are having a fine Thursday morning.

Thank you for sharing the pictures for Say Cheese Day.
That little pooch (weimaraner) is adorable. I think I could find room for him.

I'll be back; I need to reboot. Sigh.

Freep mail me to be on or off the Daily Bread ping list

August 7, 2008
God’s Training School
[We are] heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him. —Romans 8:17
Lew Wallace’s book Ben-Hur tells the story of a Jewish aristocrat betrayed by his best friend and condemned to serve as a galley slave in the Roman navy. On a forced march to the ship, Judah Ben-Hur meets Jesus of Nazareth, whose compassion fills him with hope. Eventually, Ben-Hur saves the Roman commander during battle. In gratitude, the commander adopts Ben-Hur as his son, instantly elevating him from slave to heir.

That’s what happens to us when God adopts us into His family. But great privilege brings great responsibility. Paul said that we become “heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him” (Rom. 8:17). The gospel does not say, “Come to Jesus and live happily ever after.” God’s syllabus for His children’s education includes training through hardships.

Ben-Hur’s years of enduring hardship as a Roman slave strengthened him and increased his endurance. He eventually defeated his “friend-turned-enemy” in a chariot race.

As endurance and training were key to Ben-Hur’s victory, so are they vital to victory in the Christian’s war with sin and evil. The hard times we endure are God’s way to prepare us for greater service for His glory.

So send I you to hearts made hard by hatred,
To eyes made blind because they will not see,
To spend though it be blood—to spend and spare not—
So send I you to taste of Calvary. —Clarkson

We conquer by continuing.

Laminate flooring in the kitchen. Yes. We recently had one laid in our kitchen. Replaced carpet with laminate in cherry color. So far I love it. It seems to hold up well. Took me a while to find out what was best to clean it because even windex would leave streaks on it. But eventually found out that vinegar and water cleans it to a shine. The only problem one might have with it is if water or liquid is spilled in large quanities. You need to get it up quickly before it leaks into the seams. Between cleanings I just dust mop it. We also put it in our bathroom and half-bath. So far, so good.

I was concerned about the water and the snap together kind not being water-proof. They make some that does seal between the boards and I was wondering if maybe that would be the best choice. However, it will probably be harder to assemble.

It takes someone who knows what they are doing to put any of it down. It’s not the easiest thing to do. If you can afford the kind that seals, of course that would be best. I haven’t had any problems with mine so far. It seems to be pretty rugged. I just use a rag squeezed from vinegar and water to wipe it down. It never scratches for sure. The man who put it down told me about a floor like it that was installed as a dance floor in a bar someplace. He siad it looked like new after two years of spills and dancing. So I’m no longer worried about it. Water stands on it until I wipe it up.
