I've had garlic ice cream.

It's not bad.

I get the big bag of Christopher Farms Gilroy garlic from Costco every few weeks.

I lived about 10 miles north of Gilroy in Morgan Hill for about 11 years. It was great in the morning when the breeze would blow up from Gilroy, bringing the smell of garlic!

Of course, I was also delighted to finally escape California in 1994!

There’s no such thing as too much garlic.

I used to live in Watsonville and work in Gilroy and I
remember the smell wafting up as I rode my bike over Mt Madonna. Always made me hungry!

It’s gonna get ‘stinky’ around here real qucik..

Glad the smoke from the fires has moved on a bit, this’ll help.

Yum, fresh garlic!

Interesting thing about the root plate and Chinese garlic. I thought the stuff with the root plate on was maybe just grown differently or processed less, and that’s why it tasted better. But now that I know the difference is between Chinese and local, I’ll always buy the local stuff, where I used to buy the Chinese stuff in a pinch.

3 pounds a year,, seems like a lot, ‘til one dines out and cooks at home..

I have to confess, I have never braved the crowds for Gilroy garlic,, I used to do the Mushroom and Strawberry festivals way back but nowadays, what a zoo!

I did the Gilroy Garlic Festival once. Humungous crowds. Way too hot. Very exhausting. AND quite expensive.

Once was enough. Too much of a hermit these days to get out in the public.

BUT.......I DID do something very “touristy” last Saturday. We went to the Mystery Spot! Now THAT’S an interesting excursion!

There’s a huge garlic festival near New Paltz NY in early Sept each year. It's really big.

The “tour” is about 40 minutes or so. I found it very gruelling; I have very bad equilibrium and the “Spot” really kicked it into high gear.

But it was so much fun! The guides are all young people (you’d have to be young to climb around all that steep stuff!) You find yourself NOT wanting to believe it, but if it’s a hoax, it’s so incredibly performed that no one can figure it out.

Next time I’m going to take some Merazine. Hehehe.

You should do it! (weekends are swamped with tourists; you can make a reservation on line. I would rather go on a weekday)

A note of chivalry for our yong men out there:

If your date wishes to order a garlic dish, you also order one. It evens the playing field.

Redleg - I’ve lived in Morgan Hill since ‘79.

Glad to hear you were able to escape. I still do the 101 drive to Santa Clara every day.

garlic-loving immigrants from Latin America and Asia entered the United States in the 20th century, they too helped change the way America ate. Garlic's bold and powerful flavor may also help explain its popularity, particularly among men.

My hubby LOVES garlic. We both love Korean food yet we have NEVER been to the Garlic Festival even though it's only a few hours away.
