You wrap the water pipes, and you can also let them drip but that takes pump energy so you might try electric heat strips.

It’s unfortunate you heat with oil, propane or electric would probably be better.

Our electric rates are going to go up about 20%, which sounds like a lot but not when you realise gas has doubled in price.

yes it’s unfortunate now.
At the time (2000) this was suggested because we have a large family.
I’ve read propane isn’t as efficient, but I’m not sure what that means. I’ve noticed some of my friends who built homes in the past few years went with propane.

We were told - at the time - electric was too expensive (joke’s on us now!) and that an electric fired water heater wouldn’t keep up with our needs.

I just got this month's gas bill, and I noticed a number of things... We've had yet another increase in NON-GAS costs (fees, line charges, etc...). Where my summer gas bills used to be around $15 a month, just the non-gas fees and charges are now about $26 a month. Then there's the gas itself. I seem to recall that gas USED TO cost less during the summer. There was just a 20% increase in the charge for gas on this bill. Electric rates have gone up... Gas is going to be REALLY expensive this winter, though nowhere near as bad as fuel oil.
