In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
Inalienable
Adjective
"Alien," "alienable," "inalienable" -- it's easy enough to see the Latin word "alius," meaning "other," at the root of these three words. "Alien" joined our language in the 14th century, and one of its earliest meanings was "belonging to another." By the early 1600s that sense of "alien" had led to the development of "alienable," an adjective describing something you could give away or transfer ownership of, and "unalienable," its opposite. By about 1645, "inalienable" was also in use as a synonym of "unalienable." "Inalienable" is the more common variant today, but it was "unalienable" that was used in the Declaration of Independence to describe rights like life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
This year, one more right went from worthless to at least semi - alienable according to the Supreme Court. Hold yer nose and keep Obama (peace be uipon him) out of the White House. The offspring of his presidency would be a disaster decades in the undoing.
thanks arghy!! we miss you!
patriotic pooches! i will have to put some red white and blue on my pups, great idea~
Left us on what had to be his favorite day, the Fourth of July. May the good Lord rest his soul.
hate to think what the DUers are saying, spawn of hell that they are.
Thank God we still have a core group of conservative USSC Justices who still adhere to an inalienable Constitution, one not subject to the vagaries of foreign opinion or the whims of the day...
Dang.........
You won’t get an arguement out of me.
Predictable "obituary" from the MSM -- so despicable...
More inalienable rights articulated here...

Many thanks to Robert Spencer.
Yankee Poodle Dandy!
Happy Independence Day. I hope the rain holds off until after 10 pm. We’ve already had one shower.
Do they have rain dates for your fireworks?
Methinks the day of 7/4 is inalienable — it may fall on a Friday this year, but no one will ever make it a Monday/3-day weekend thing.
Happy 4th, everyone.
local fireworks like fairfax and falls church yes, but the NATIONAL ones which are local to us, and televised and shown around the country, i don’t think so.
