Meg, I’ve always had an ant problem. And yellow jackets or some stinging pest. I had to clean mine yesterday again. My hose is handy and I now rinse it good before I bring it in because I didn’t like carrying the ants in either. That did solve my problem.
Yesterday, I put a drizzle of clorox at the bottom of the little pole in the bark to see if that would keep the ants from climbing. Its always something. My hummers are fighting like crazy now.
Another hint that has slowed the ants down some. I had to get a new feeder this year and at the top, there is a little well and I keep it filled with water and not many of them can get across the water and they drown or turn around and go down the pole.

I need another feeder..I broke the plastic part that holds the food on one this week..It was years old..I’ll keep my eye out for one with a little well on top.
I usually am beset by yellow jackets and small wasps, too..none this year at all. I wonder if our lack of rain is a factor..I know I have only had a few mosquito bites this year..Last year I had to spray myself with Off if I was out for any length of time.

Good morning, Yorkie. Thanks for the great suggestions.
I'm planning to kick back and do nothing today. LOL
Two young Mothers are taking their two kids to the swim park and
they invited Marissa to go along.
I have known their Grandmother since 8th grade;
she suggested that we join them and have a do nothing day.
I'm going to pack an ice chest with lots of water and some sodas.
My friend is bringing some chips and dip; we may pig out while doing nothing. LOL

Men and BBQ’s
Now that BBQ season has arrived, it is perhaps a good idea to remind one and all of the tremendous significance of barbeques in the fabric of society and why men have barbequed meat from the dawn of civilization. Keep up the good work, men!
BBQ: It’s the only type of cooking a real man will do.
When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion:
1) The woman buys the food.
2) The woman makes the salad, vegetables, and dessert.
3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill — beer in hand.
Here comes the important part .....
4) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL.
More routine....
5) The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery.
6) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is burning.
He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he deals with the situation.
Important again ....
7) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.
More routine.....
8) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauces, and brings them to the table.
9) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes. And most of all ....
10) Everyone PRAISES the man and THANKS him for his cooking efforts.
11) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed “her night off.”
And, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there’s just no pleasing some women.

Never happened in our household: Susan always had FULL responsibility. That's what those cooking lessons were about ... although I do recall her signature chocolate mousse didn't quite jell one night. I tried corn starch then, when that didn't work, slipped away and bought some ice cream--the hardest damn ice cream you can imagine. I couldn't even chip it out with the tip of a tablespoon. Sawing with knives didn't work either. The store must have used dry ice to freeze it. I almost had to use a hammer and chisel, which considering the noises emanating from the kitchen caused a small stir. Good thing they were relatives with a sense of humor. I did, chivalrously, take responsibility--but only once.
