Wouldn’t there eventually be a way to build an atmosphere after a few hundred years of growing trees?

You would need to build a massive magnet that could deflect the solar winds. I am no expert on this, most of what I know is what I learned from the Science Channel.

Trees can’t grow there without at least a 100mb atmosphere and temperatures warm enough for growth.
