June 21, 2008
Over the past several days, I have gone through several emotions, confusion, disgust, disappointment, and finally anger. At first my confusion and disgust were aimed at the arrogance of our State Legislature. Now, I find anger has overtaken my disappointment for my Governor, Bobby Jindal. My anger also extends to the national media, which includes the press and conservative radio talk show host that have long touted the savior of the Republican partys future.
Since Hurricane Katrina, Louisiana has made the national news and exposed the corrupt and inept leadership in Baton Rouge. The impression the rest of the country had of Louisiana was skewed as a result. In actuality, Louisiana can be broken into three regions, New Orleans, the people that occupy the State Capitol building, and the rest of the state. Unfortunately, the majority of the state falls into the latter category. But, its that part of the state that stood up in October of 2007 and demanded our reputation be redeemed. The rest of Louisiana voted for reform. Bobby Jindal promised that reform.
When we elected Bobby Jindal, we knew he had national political aspirations. We also knew he was going to use the Governors office to achieve those aspirations. But, we actually thought he would use the office of Governor to prove that he could be, as Rush Limbaugh says, the next Ronald Reagan.
For some reason, Rush, Newt Gingrich, and many people looking for the next Ronald Reagan continue to tout Bobby Jindal as the second coming. Unfortunately, they arent looking at his actions. Ronald Reagan knew how to use a veto pen. Ronald Reagan knew what his conservative base wanted, mainly because it was what he wanted.
The people of Louisiana have overwhelmingly told Bobby Jindal to veto the legislative pay raise. He can repeat his three talking points as many times as he chooses. They can stop answering the phone, which they have. By the way Governor Jindal, a recorded message is so impersonal.
Finally, Governor Jindal may take the voters of Louisiana for granted. He may think the national press will not see his actual record. And he probably is right. Louisianas newspapers have gotten this story right. As a people who really want reform, we must make sure the national press gets it right.
Oh, Lordy!
I’m sorry to hear that.
However, I do question his preferences...
It’s good to see you again. ;o)
You are the first poster from Louisiana on this thread. I am amazed at the knee jerk reactions of so many here to blast someone without any facts whatsoever. I have been doing some research to try and learn more. From what I can gather, a part time legislator is going to go from a 16,800 annual salary to 30-45% of US Congresses pay. 30 for regular legislators and 45 for senate and house leaders. On top of that, monthly expense accounts will go from $500 to $1000. That means a raise from $16,800 to $50,790 & $76,185. The Louisiana people have a right to be totally pissed. They have a very legitimate complaint.
I got my information from this online article on BayouBuzz.com
They had a link to the original bill SB672

See ya, troll.
This was posted a few days ago. It backs up thelejunes post.

Count me as the second poster...but I’m not from LA.
I’ve not been here for a while, so I hope you will enlighten me.

FReeper Abb has posted the best info/Truth about Bobby,,,
I’m not from there, either. I just found it odd that this writer and the guy I met were on the same page and then I read all the negative posts back at him labeling him a troll. I decided to do some research. I just watched a news video report. That a news organization reports something should be taken with a grain of salt, but read the comments at the bottom of the page. Louisianans are royally ticked off. We can’t just dismiss their concerns just because we are all looking for our “savior”. Here’s the link if you care to see.

By the way, this isn’t just a little raise, this is a huge, massive raise.
Morning, Morter. Later in the morning I will be initiating a daily JindalWatch® Alert and pinging to anyone interested. It will be a daily roundup of articles, blogs, letters to the editor, etc. concerning Bobby Jindal and the Louisiana Legislature.
As you know, there are at least two recall efforts that have been launched against legislators. I’m told the effort against Jim Tucker is quite well organized and has a real chance of succeeding.
Perhaps this will all turn into an event similar to the PA Clean Sweep thing of three years ago.
I hate to see that, and am thoroughly disappointed. ;o(
I had hoped that he would be a stand-up guy.
That right there goes to show you the state of our political class now.
Thank you so much for your posts.
It is so good to see you again. ;o)
Thank you, abb, for your posts!
You have one good guy vouching for you.
Though, I’ve seen your posts many times before. ;o)
To say that I’m chagrined by all the developments in Louisiana is an understatement. I voted for Bobby Jindal and supported him. I’m a sixth-generation Louisianan and we all had very high hopes for Bobby and this crop of legislators.
But if they are going to crap all over us conservatives who toted water for them last election, they’re going to have to be made to pay.
Let the battle begin.
I am a LA native; my parents, two sisters, and two brothers still live there.
My point is this: Regardless of Jindal’s stance on the pay raise, he is still a d@mn sight better than the typical corrupt LA pols he replaced/ran against.
This all-or-nothing attitude on the part of some people really gets my goat. I fled that State years ago due to the endemic corruption therein; I think Jindal deserves a chance before we toss HIM under the bus - let alone by a noobie that apparently signed up just to post this drivel.
Your numbers are correct and I would add that the crowd
in Baton Rouge voted themselves Life Time Health Care last
year,,,LIFE TIME!!!
How much is that worth ?
Wives Too !
FWIW : The pay raise takes effect in 10 days! July First!
The bone that was thrown to the TAXPAYERS won't happen till
2009!
I was in LA during Edward Edwins’ regime.
From the video, it seems that nothing has changed?
Y’all might be a lost cause, and I’m sorry to see that.
:o(
The bastards ain't running me off. Some of my family has been here since 1770 and I'm staying too.
Morning,Sir,,,I’m sure glad to see you,,,
JindalWatch® is a great idea,,,
Please add me to your ping list...
Keep Sluggin’ my FRiend...
Gee, thought Rush lived (AND VOTED) in Florida?
Maybe he has duel citizenship?
There are parts of LA that I would suggest are really "foreign."
If the people are not satisfied with Jindall, look in the mirror.
Hey look at our President. There are tens of millions of us who are VERY unhappy with this RINO who left his gonads in a lock box in Texas, but the alternative (John "The Snake" Kerry) would have been much worse.
So get over it and live with it until the next election.
Yes, he is better than what came before him. I, like many other conservatives, was really excited by this rising star. If Jindal goes and breaks campaign promises he better be able to take the heat for it. The people of the state have every right to rise up when they see the need to make their voices heard. If enough of them are upset over this or anything else, politicians should be made to face the music. Louisiana has been corrupt for many years and now many of the corrupt will be fleecing the taxpayers once again with outragous pay raises.
If this happened in my state, I know all hell would break loose here, too. Jindal has only himself to blame, he should have stuck to his promises. Enough of a ruckus was raised, it seems to me, to give him fair warning.
Seems to me that instead of a citizen legislature, you have an aristocracy.
