“If you’re born in the United States, you’re a US citizen unless you’re the child of a foreign diplomat.”
Better check the law before 1986.
You’re wrong. You’re on a migratory waterfowl chase.
Your only hope is that he wasn’t born in Hawaii.
That statute is irrelevant to his situation as we know it.
Maybe you should check the law. The law, even before 1986, works along a pathway.
First, were you born in the U.S. to parents who did not have diplomatic immunity? If yes, you are a natural born U.S. citizen.
Second, were you born outside the U.S. to parents that were both U.S. citizens? If yes, you are a natural born U.S. citizen.
Third, were you born outside the U.S. to a parent that was a natural born U.S. citizen and to a parent that was a not a citizen? If yes, you are a natural born U.S. citizen.
Fourth, were you born outside the U.S. to a parent that was a naturalized U.S. citizen that had lived 10 years in the U.S. including five years past the age of 16 and to a parent that was not a citizen? If yes, you are a natural born U.S. citizen.
Since Obama qualified under the first check point, the rest is irrelevant.
